Queensland Rail : Spring Bluff : Australian trains and railroads

Spring Bluff station is located on what could best be described as a goat track that winds its way through torturous terrain in the ranges above Toowoomba, Queensland. In this video you take a look at the old signal frame and the electric staff instruments that were used to facilitate safeworking on the single lines in each direction. Of course I include a few trains for you to watch after the trip back in time. The electric staff ( or token ) system can be Googled if you are not familiar with its operation. When I was driving we had apparatus on the loco to exchange them while passing through a station at 70mph......quite a lot slower if doing it by hand.

Nice one Rod,I see you did make it to Spring Bluff,glad you saw it and got a meet as well!!... Iv'e never scored a meet all the times I've been there!. I was fortunate to have worked on those staff maschines on the SG line down to the NSW border, they are built like a brick outhouse and it's quite a skill to "pull" a staff without it jamming! I actually helped decommission the machines at Glennap, when CTC came in!, many eyes on them !! Thanks for posting mate!

No it's 3'6" in Queensland.......exceptions being the interstate into Brisbane and the stand alone bauxite mining line up at Weipa.
