Michael Wilton is a legend. Plain & simple. Look at his songwriting credits. Look at how long he’s sustained a successful touring career. Don’t even try to come for his playing.

Great philosophy Michael. It really hits home and I agree with you. By The Way...My mom when I was learning guitar as a teenager made me aware of an Andre Segovia article and I still remember one of his quotes... "Guitar is one easiest instruments to play badly and one of the hardest instruments to play well"...I never forgot that quote all these years. BTW: My mom was pretty cool and used to buy me Wes Montgomery albums too when I was only a young guitarist of about 15-16 years old. I can't thank mom enough for all her support to my music and her insight. Be well Michael. Philip NYC Area

Funny you should mention Wes Montgomery....big fan here! I used to play a bunch of rock-centric tunes in my younger years; flashy pentatonic scales and what not. But when I heard "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face" by Wes I was mesmerized by the ethereal, melodic chord voicing, and knew right off the bat that I had to learn how to play that gem. The tempo is super slow and subdued, but mastering those chord progressions and making it all sound "musical" was just as hard has Segovia's interpretation of Danza Pomposa. Wes was a genius.

Great player. I saw QR several times in the 80s. Wilton and DeGarmo were the absolute best guitar duo I've ever seen. Their dual leads were amazing, the tone, the precision. Awesome.

It certainly bothers me there are several KZbinr’s that explain playing Guitar like putting flat place furniture together- as if there’s only one way. Your finger placing may be sloppy, and your tone sound like cement cracking, but if you’re enjoying and expressing yourself, and perhaps other people enjoy it as well, then what gives them the right to say what’s right and wrong?

Queensryche were and band of exceptional musicians that complimented eachother perfectly like no other band. It's heartbreaking watching the downward spiral from Chris left. I wish they could just pick up from Hear in the Now Frontier ...and start making awesome records again. I'd love a full reunion ...Chris, Michael, Ed, Scott and Geoff!

Hey Michael Wilton, if you ever see this video, can you ever make a video going over what gear you used on Operation Mindcrime like guitar cabinets and speakers you used. I understand the band used Marshall Cabinets, but it would be nice to hear from band members things like that, and what amps, and what speakers did you use? That would be cool!

Don’t forget to check out guitar works by Ponce, Roberto Lara, Augustin Barrios, and Antonio Lauro. I don’t write those types of classical songs, but find I have to listen to these composers for my enjoyment and musical writing inspiration. Segovia wasn’t a composer as much as he was a performer. He actually played compositions by the composers I mentioned above, and really well. Lastly I would like to ask what is a professional musician these days ? What are the modern trenches ? Being that there aren’t really many labels left, or industry for that matter, what exactly is a professional musician after personal computers went mainstream and killed the music industry ? I 100% agree that people should not talk ill of fellow musicians ( unless they invited it ), but I don’t agree that professional musicians have to live up to 80’s and 90’s standards to be considered a pro musician ( earning money ). Touring without a label is expensive, living like a couch bum, or sleeping in a cramped cold van. I get what he is saying though. It’s just not that simple of an argument he is forming.

if you never walked in someone else's shoes never criticize. Mike has been doing this for more years than those youtubers have been alive. There comments are irrelevant and unfounded. You will not find a more solid guitar player in the biz than Wilton.

There are faster, more technical players with videos on youtube, but that doesn't mean that they are better musicians than Michael Wilton. Write an album or or ten, and then we can talk.
