Queensryche without both Tate and DeGarmo...has about as much chance as Journey without both Perry and Shon..or Creed without Stapp and Tremonti..or Led Zep without Pland and Page..etc..etc. Sometimes the band is greater than the sum of it's collective parts.

Look....the past is the past, but give credit where it is due. Tate did more than just sing. His vocal style was like an instrument all on it's own. His stage performance made you believe. He and DeGarmo had a great writing relationship. If you have any background in singing or in music, you would understand the difference between just singing and making your voice a part of the bands direction. If he just wrote a few words, then his singing wouldn't be the major reason why so many love QR.

Chris left because he didn't want to do the rock star thing anymore. Period. He would have continued with another band and stayed in the industry if he wanted, but that wasn't what he had planned. It had nothing to do with the band itself and anyone in it. Get it straight.
@mglenn70925 жыл бұрын
I believe Chris DeGarmo more than I believe you, and for that matter more than I believe Geoff Tate, Michael Wilton, Scott Rockenfield, and Eddie Jackson. As far back as "Empire', Chris stated that he was unhappy with dysfunctional interpersonal relations wirhin the band. While he's always been too classy to fully air the dirt in public, he has made it clear that completely dysfunctional relations within the band, both personal and professional, were one of the three main reasons he quit after "Hear in the Now Frontier", and that that was the main reason he quit again while the band was recording "Tribe" (pretty much all evidence indicates that he came back for "Tribe" with the intent on both the rest of the band and Chris's part that he was rejoining Queensryche, but he couldn't stand how bad relations between the band members had gotten-- he did make a clear statement that the band's "dysfunction" had only gotten worse while he'd been away). But, while Chris doesn't "name names" he's still been clear as he can be while remaining a gentleman that it was everyone else in Queensryche, not just Geoff Tate, that were the problem. So, yes, it had to do with the band and everyone (not just anyone) in it -- sorry dude, you're wrong on this one. Elsewhere, your defense of G Tate is both wrong - yes, Geoff being an asshole was part of the problem, he's not some maligned innocent - and right - Wilton, Jackson, and Rockenfield were each just as much to blame, so all the finger-pointing saying it's ALL Geoff's fault is bullshit. Chris did give 3 reasons for quitting though - the other 2 were choosing his wife, marriage and family over the band and continuing to be a rockstar, and that he'd already done pretty much everything he wanted to do with Queensryche, musically speaking. And the fact that he quit again, but has worked with other people (Jerry Canrell, Spys4darwin, and now with his daughter in 'the Rue') lends more weight to the fact that problems inside Queensryche were a major reason for him leaving. The fact that Chris has also rather pointedly REFUSED to take sides in the current split between Tate and the rest of the band speaks volumes. One would expect that if Tate had really been the entire problem Chris would have said something in support of the others in all those court cases- or more directly acted, by lending a 4th vote against Tate of original band members, which would have squashed Tate's complaint that a 4-1 vote was required to expel him from the band and that the remaining 3 weren't a sufficient supermajority according to the band's corporate agreement.

FreeMTrider Actually Chris left for several reasons. He wanted to spend more time with his family, but it all started during "Promised Land" when Geoff became nearly impossible to work with. He hated Chris coming in with music & lyrics written for his songs which cut Geoff out of royalty money. Looked at "Promised Land", it's almost a Chris DeGarmo solo album with his writing the bulk of the songs by himself.

I didn't really mean to say DeGarmo was Queensryche. I read Geoff Tate say he wrote 81% of the music and was essentially responding to that claim. Queensryche was a group effort with lyrical contributions from Tate. The post Degarmo Queensryche was absolutely terrible, and I realize now, after hearing the new album that's coming later this month, that Queensryche is back with no Tate, nor Degarmo, and writing fantastic music.
@mglenn70925 жыл бұрын
Eh. DeGarmo wasn't all there was to Queensryche- he couldn't have done it without the rest of the band; but on the other hand, the rest of the band hasn't done anything worth the time it takes to listen since DeGarmo quit- DeGarmo was the essential one in the band, they can't do it without him. Although yes, the new Tate-less Queensryche is sounding better than the later years of Tate's dictatorship (not hard to do), it's barely better than average rock'n'roll, nothing that can compare to the first six albums and original ep.
@OpheliaDarkling12 жыл бұрын
very sad that this album spelled the end of the band for me. all good things must come to an end at some point I guess. Part of me wishes the muse would revisit, chris would rejoin and they'd be interesting, and relevant again just for the music's sake. But reunions rarely if ever live up to their potential. Having a wife manage your band is the worst idea ever. Didn't they ever see Spinal Tap? lol

Re-watching this and looking at the body language. It really doesn't look like anyone in the band is happy at this interview. Except maybe Eddie Jackson. He's kind of keeping the stoic, no expression face going, but if you watch him... he's not clenching his teeth and the way his lips are twitching it's more like he's just on the edge of actually smiling at quite a few points in the interview, but doesn't quite get there (then again-- I think Eddie has more songwriting credits on this album than any album that came before it, and 'Hit the Black', credited DeGarmo/Jackson, is a damn good song). Mike Wilton, seems bored and like he really doesn't have anything to say here... yes, looks like he's unhappy with the new changes in direction. Geoff Tate... well, he's talking and the words sound right... but the expression such as it is (the eyes are well-hidden behind those shades) seems like he's not at all happy with the new album and he's just putting on some good words since it's his job to promote the album. Scott Rockenfield isn't even there. And Chris Degarmo clearly believes in his music and what he's trying to do, but he isn't smiling much here and I'm wondering if this is already closing in on the point where Chris decided to quit. One thing's clear, even though Chris does look at Geoff and tries to involve him a little more in the conversation... Chris and Geoff don't have the kind of camaraderie and easy way of playing off each other that can be seen in interviews recorded around the time of 'Promised Land' and earlier - something has definitely gone sour in the band by this point.

If you hate the guy, so be it. But I'm betting you got into QR's music mainly because of how Tate blew everyone away with his vocals. And by the way, Chris was very protective of the music he wrote, so much so that he didn't want the band to capitalize on it after he quit. He filed and everything.

with degarmo they were unstoppable, when they have acoustics fillings in their songs like Sign Of The Times they used to have acoustic guitars on satge now...they just do it so it dosent sound as genuine... they dont even have the original recording they use for Empire right before Whips solo, i love Queensryche, my favorite band & they've fallen off since 97'. its not the same without Chris.

Degarmo is Queensryche, not Tate. For the past decade Queensryche has been on hiatus. No longer does this band play Tate's mindless, solo work.
@Limited_Light11 жыл бұрын
These are possibilities. As for Tate being an egomaniac, I've only heard that said since his firing. Any evidence of it being said before that? Also note that Tate tried out for Journey in the late 90s or early 2000s. As for being for ready for 6/25, I think I will buy both albums (the re-mixed version of Geoff's).

I used to dislike HITNF a long time ago, but I've found that it's really grown on me asI've gotten older and now I quite like it. As for "Tribe" yeah Chris 'contributed'-- but left before the album was anywhere near finished and someone (probably Geoff really is the party to blame for this) completely f***ed it all up by the time recording, mixing and producing were complete- so, yes, that one sucks but I'm not blaming Chris for something that in finished form isn't really his work anymore.

Rokstr48's claims that you're responding to, are things that Chris actually said in interviews. Don't have to be a mind-reader to know Chris was not happy with the toxic interpersonal environment of the band. First time he let slip something about it goes as far back as the tour in support of Empire.

@ZR1KOH susan tate has killed the band iam affraid......if i was their manager id be in talks with Ridley Scott about Queensryche doing the soundtrack to his new Bladerunner film. The band would be ideal for it and it would give them lots of exposure.....but hey what do i know!

@Hulkamaniac418 nice try at humour bud.......due to the internet i know lots of people some of which are close to and some of which are less so to him so yeah I know quite abit about thoughts and feelings close to the truth. Plus the fact that Ive been in bands for 20 years so you tend to get a feel for band dynamics over the years.
@rokstar4812 жыл бұрын
@Hulkamaniac418 sorry bud but Chris was thinking about leaving when they wrote HITNF so he wasnt really that interested and the Tribe album was his try at rejoining them but they were just as toxic in terms as atmosphere as when he left in 97 so he left again.....so your point doesnt hold up......Queensryche without Chris are like Queen without Mercury or the Beatles without Lennon, which is why they are soooooooooooooooo bad these days. Wish something would change so Chris could come back.

Cool, as long as you are willing to give the Tate-less version a chance, can't argue with that. I've heard F.U. there are several passable songs on there, but I know that Geoff had nothing to do writing the music to those songs. And I also think Tate can put little to no effort into his art and assume his fans will buy it, which is disappointing.

Michael, Eddie and Scott rarely had anything worthwhile to say. Eddie looks so sour in this clip. It was all Chris and Geoff.

You ever thought that maybe the interviewer was trying to interview Tate and DeGarmo and not really showing the rest of them any love? Or, what if Michael, Ed, and Scott said things but they edited out those portions. Or, another possibility was that Chris was the mediator of the group, Tate was the ego-maniac, and the rest of the guys just let Chris do the talking because the 3 didn't really want to step on the ego-maniac's toes? Just throwing ideas around.
