@ThatOneAsianBroChick the really confusing thing is, that the Americans adapted the German word pudding to mean what it means in America, however the German word itself was adapted from the English word of puddingwhich always used to mean a dish that start off wet is then encased and then boiled or steamed in order to set it just like black pudding

I was told all my life that Irish and UK food was bland and bad. It SO wasn't! I freaking love pub food in the UK. It's so bad for you and so delicious. We don't have anything remotely like curry chips in the US, and I miss them every single weekend. Your crisps are better. Your stews are fantastic. You do amazing things with fried fish. You make brilliant sandwiches--seriously, lunch in the UK or Eire was amazing. American convenience sandwiches are just garbage compared to even the crappiest egg salad sandwich from Tesco or M&S. God, I miss sandwiches from the UK. Oh! And your salads. You put rocket (they call it arugula here, but I refuse. It's rocket) on everything, which is divine. Sigh. Yeah, British food is NOT the stereotype. It's such delicious comfort food.
@alexlyster3459
@alexlyster3459 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I think a lot of the stereo type comes from post war Britain when food was scare and they'd boil everything, so it was quite bland for a time. American Servicemen took those memories back with them and the idea stuck, even though culinary talent and appreciation over here went back up over time.

He is basically doing small-scale socialism himself right now; asking people who can afford it to put money towards a cause he thinks will benefit the country as a whole. So he's not only a hypocrite but also cannot budget for an event to save his life and is getting caught up in the fanfare. Your menus may be printed with gold-leaf he begged for the money to afford, but chances are he hasn't even bought an oven for the restaurant yet.

I am actually really happy Antoni agreed with what I thought all along: that British food is way underrated. The first time I had Black Pudding (Mince Pies, Branston Pickle, Scones, Stilton, etc,) I thought I’d died and gone to heaven... Also British Supermarkets are so well stocked, with British and international food stuffs. And the Waitrose fresh Apple Juice tastes like fresh from the orchard. This is actually my tip for eating on the cheap while traveling in the UK: buy yourself a little picknick in your supermarket of choice and... there you go. On my last trip to London I made the huge mistake of only traveling with cabin luggage: could not bring home Orange Marmalade bc of liquids restrictions 😭 Please tell me: which British Food do you love and I should try?

I had brown sauce when I was in London and literally tasted like A1 sauce

It's basically the same thing. Brown sauce in the UK is sweeter--more raisins, I think, than A1. It's basically the same sauce, though.

The correct condiment for a pork pie is branston pickle or a fancy chutney you got in a Christmas hamper
