@TagusMan3 жыл бұрын
Well done series. Great work. As for Sally Menke...she was the secret sauce in Quentin's films. His movies never recovered from her passing. Recently re-watched Pulp Fiction and some of those cuts are pure perfection. The fight scenes in Kill Bill are cut like music. As an editor myself, I have to tip my hat to her. She had real rhythm and melody in her cutting. One of the greatest editors of all time. Chapeau, Sally. You were the best.
@miinyoo Жыл бұрын
100% Sally was a majestic silent poet.
@jameshutchinson3672 Жыл бұрын
I have always maintained that Sally Menke was essential to the tone and incredible totality of his movies: it’s incredibly apparent that everything after IB is missing a certain economy and just kind of feels spiritually different. Given the fact that his films after her passing are still very good it’s hard to imagine how much better they would have been if she was still with us. Editing is often overlooked as one the essential components of filmmaking which is crazy considering how many classic movies were practically created in the editing chair. Take Jaws for example: famously once it had wrapped filming it was in a completely raw and formless state and it was looking like Spielberg had created a disaster. Enter Verna Fields who cut what is at this point a timeless masterpiece. For those interested in the art and craft of film editing I recommend the book “The Conversations” with Walter Murch. It’s incredibly insightful.
@Shawn-Leider Жыл бұрын
Wym his movies never recovered? She’s very talented and maybe was essential to those films success. But once upon a time in Hollywood is massive. Probably his best work
@lpiazzetti11 ай бұрын
I'm also an editor myself and have always thought exactly like you said. Sally was the best and Tarantino movies are really "other thing" without her. I think Django is the worst of his movies, (still pretty good, but the one I like the least), the first without her. One can't say it's poorly edited, but there are jokes that don't "work" well, and maybe the scenes with loud music really don't get THAT "Tarantinean" cut.

It's clear Tarantino takes an INDUSTRIOUS amount of notes when watching films - seeing a scene in another movie that he likes, then deconstructing why he likes it, and what could make it better. Some other channel did the same thing for the coin toss scene in "No Country For Old Men" and it was as if a lightbulb moment went on for me. If I had access to the obscene amount (and more importantly, quality) of information and analysis that the internet provides these days I would have destroyed in highschool and college. Kids do be lazy these days. Edit: I am very glad you included the cuts where the actors said hello to her to make her job easier. Edit edit: Jamie Foxx is a PHENOMENAL actor. A perfect Django.

I suspect he puts the pop and cultural references into his films because they will get lost in the modern world. Very, very well put together. As someone who loves film and around 97% of the info was already familiar to me, there were still some very cool tidbit really under surface level trivias that I didn't know about and was very glad to hear. But even tho I knew most of it already it didn't lower the enjoyment of watching this since it was made in that interesting way to keep the hook on me even if familiar hook. This managed to have very Tarantinoesque feeling and clearly someone who loves films very much fingerprint in it. It was a delight and again, very well done. Btw I love how Walton Goggin's and Timothy Olyphant both ended up in Tarantino movies after doing the great show Justified. Which is about Elmore Leonard's character Raylan Given's, so Tarantino obviously watched the show (being Leonard fan to the point of doing Jackie Brown which is ofcourse adapted from Elmore's book Rum Punch and I have a memory of him saying that he likes the show) and Quentin loved both actors enough to do that for them. They both do carry the show Justified as opposites a lot with their crazyy charisma. Even Damon Herriman from Justified got the scene of playing Manson which he did around the same time for Fincher as an older version of Manson in Mindhunter. Also wouldn't be suprised if Quentin new Olyphant from Deadwood already, being an western fan and Deadwood being a terrific cult show (one of the best even if it got a bit rough ending in a form of a movie many years later since it was cancelled midway of the story for being so expensive show).

What a GREAT documentary on Quentin Tarantino! This should be on the market as THE documentary to have if you love his work. I realize I am finding this channel late in the game, but am so thankful I did find it. I have already spent 2 hrs watching part 1&2 on this Sunday morning, and will be sitting here for Part 3 as well. If there were parts 4-6, my butt would still be glued to the same spot. Praise and commendations to the creator and please continue with more of the same. THIS is your calling, never doubt that! Subscribed as well. Thank you so much for creating something that actually is extremely enjoyable and informative.

Tarantino really loves making movies. You can see it in the excitement he has in his face when he talks about the process.

I'm such a nerd for behind the scene stuff, especially Tarantino's films, he's just a genius and you have to give credit to the 1000s of incredible crew members and stunt workers who helped create these masterpieces with Quentin's vision ❤️ gonna be an old man still watching all of them 😂

great doc...but, one mistake... that JIM BROWN QT mentioned to Foxx wasn't James Brown the singer..but it was JIM Brown the former football athlete-turned action actor..portrayed by Aldis Hodge, in One Night in Miami. oh, and why the narrator kept saying the name Zoe as "Zo"..? It's "Zo-EE"...you can hear Tarantino even said it in this doc.

Hi Arturo! Thank you very much for your remark! That was a huge job made. Sadly the months of work we put into these documentaries weren't enough to make sure we avoid many little mistakes like these. I hope this has not affected your experience watching our film.
