same here! to me its like the ultimate "chick flick" on speed. after all 90% of it doesnt feel like its an action/thriller at all, but a "girls night out" chatting about life, work, guys, and generally just bullshitting around- and then ten percent horror/bastard in the form of Kurt Russell. this is definitely one of my 'go to"movies for a hot , humid night with beers n bongs. always thought this film was hugely under rated but who cares? -everyone expects QT to be Reservoir Dogs/Pulp Fiction EVERY damn time, but whether you see it in the shorter or fuller format its a hellishly sexy fun time, and of course all the actors in this rock it. Shout out to Zoe Bell of course who gets her biggest, funnest Tarantino role (yet), as an unstoppable balls (vag) out, pedal to the metal Kiwi. Stunt Legend and hopefully will continue to be a Tarantino regular.

I liked Death Proof, but the one part I think Robert Rodriguez nailed but Quentin Tarantino botched: The missing reel. @Ale If you need a woman to look 'juvenile' in order to find her attractive, you might want to carefully examine your preferences.
@kp3613 жыл бұрын
@Ale Not true at all. Women like handsome men every bit as much as men like attractive women. And the long, long list of 'older' women who are deemed attractive also proves your point to be incorrect. Stop listening to red pillers and incels. They're literally wrong about everything.
@kp3613 жыл бұрын
@Ale Again, you're wrong. It *is* a priority for women that the man she is with is physically attractive. The only people who aren't aware of that are unattractive men who believe red pill/incel bullshit. You're clearly one of them. As for all the shit about Oscars, careers, etc - women aren't attracted to that in men, either. Again, your fantasy, not reality. We like nice, handsome men. Simple. Careers, Oscars, etc etc - men and women should do those things for themselves, not in the hope it'll make people want to fuck them. Brad Pitt isn't as hot now as he was at 30; nobody is, as they age. That's just life. I'm willing to bet MEW is significantly more attractive right now than you ever have been - and you can call that a 'feminist' argument if you like mate - I don't use 'feminist' as an insult, given I'm not an incel.

I find it such a shame that this movie is so dogged in the Tarantino filmography...QT himself has all but disowned it, saying "[Death Proof] has got to be the worst film I make", even using the future tense like that to really establish it as some kind of low. I get why it sticks out, because of the fact that as opposed to just making a "Tarantino Film", he was specifically making it for 'Grindhouse', and so had to work it specifically into this 'Genre' frame in a way he didn't with his other works...but I love it! I even see a lot of the same things that people point out when criticizing it, but most of the time, those are the same thigs that I dig about it. For example, I recently watched "QT8", which was a documentary about the first 8 Tarantino movies, and Christoph Waltz was talking about watching this for the first time, and the scene where the first group of girls are driving around: "And they're talking, but not about anything important, that drives the plot forward...and they're talking, and driving...and it goes on, and on...and on...and I was just so...SMITTEN...that I thought, wow, nobody else could grab me in such a way while seemingly doing so little". And those sequences were, seemingly both critically and viewer-wise, some of the most slammed bits about the film, but I felt the same way. And then obviously, you have the extremely visceral moments as counterpoint, seeing Kurt Russell get back to his old, manic ways once again...I dunno, I realize I've been rambling for quite a while now, lol but...this movie has a special little nook for me.

He liked it until it got slated. I think he grew so used to all of his movies being critically acclaimed smashes that once one of them wasn't he equated it's negative reception to it's quality. The whole Grindhouse concept, and execution, was as good as it was brave, every last bit of it. The industry worked against him and Rodriguez on that one, which had a lot to do with it's commercial failure.

She is a really quirky actress. There are some roles she's okay in and some roles she's brilliant for. Never been able to put my finger on it, but there's something about her that's just perfect for a certain type of character (although that is still a pretty wide range). I think it's just that her personality doesn't translate to iconic roles where she carries a film, but she's very interesting and likable in those roles that allow her to be bigger than a supporting character and show a bit of personality.

She has that Ellen Ripley energy.

Please don't say that certain character is the Scott Pilgrim one, because despite the fame I find thats easily her weakest role, she's just a pixie dream girl in Scott Pilgrim and doesnt get to act. I get it, a lot of guys were young and found her attractive, but its not a good role. She's brilliant in Fargo, loved her in 10 Cloverfield Lane. She's great to watch even when if u dont like the movie, like Birds of Prey or Kate. All About Nina is supposed to be good too. I think she's definitely outgrown these sort of roles, and I really enjoy Death Proof but every actress is given a meaty role except Mary, which is so strange since besides Rosario Dawson the other two (Zoe Bell and Sydney Poitier) never made much of a career afterwards. She's a lot better outside of superhero/action-star stuff, just more straightforward drama's where she can rely on her talents there, which is why she was so engaging to watch in Fargo.

@@enlightenedterrestrial YES! I was talking to a friend about who I would cast if they wanted to pick up the Alien story from the end of Cameron's Aliens (and chuck everything after), and Winstead came immediately to my mind for Ripley. To the OP's point, she has an excellent screen presence. IMHO, anyway. Ever since Sky High, I've thought that she really draws the eye, very much like Weaver.

I think that she's too humble and grounded of a person to play the leading role of some dumb blockbuster movie that would make a billion dollars worldwide. Unfortunately, those are the only types of movies that really make actors "superstars" nowadays. Dramas make a smaller and smaller amount of the total box office pot every single year. It's all about CGI f**kfests now.

That's because she is simply epic at minimalist acting; see her screen test for Scott Pilgrim, she has an amazing relationship with the camera in 5 seconds, honest truth.

She’s a good actress, she just got bad luck to only be casted for a pretty face. Kinda like Emma Watson. I’d say Mary could have been as successful as Natalie Portman or Margot Robbie, but she only got some minor castings in her peak back to the 2000’s

What Quentin is trying to say but can't find the words for is this: Quentin did a quick draft of the character and then Mary Elizabeth developed it into a really deep character with a lot of personality traits. Quentins work on the character was about 10% and Elizabeth did 90%.

1:49 Tarantino sounds like he's complimenting someone else but does it in a way that he's actually complimenting himself. The phenomenon does actually exist in real life! It also cracks me up how, as he's talking about how great an actress Winstead is, they're sure to overlay the "butt shot" scenes in front of the soda machine. Hmmm. 🤔 Winstead's awesome and she deserves better.
@NightmareCourtPictures3 жыл бұрын
Your not an artist so you wouldn't understand what he said. Usually we have an idea of what a character acts and sounds like in our heads when we write a script. Then an actor comes along and not only brings that character to life, but they do something more... that something isn't "over-dramatic"...it's complimentary to the idea of what you had in your head. That's a moment in collaborative art that most people would kill to have more often...but it's rare. Robert Downey Junior...is Ironman. He takes that character and he elevates it ABOVE what the character was on paper. That's the magic sauce...So when a director or writer says that it's definitely a compliment about the actor and their capacity to take an idea that you thought was already great...and make it even MORE great.
@mugwump2423 жыл бұрын
@@NightmareCourtPictures Actually, I am an artist, bud. Albeit, not a filmmaker. You probably have a decent point there. Too bad it's buried under some presumptuous, art-snob elitism right out of the Big Manual of Cliches.
