@JustFishing As I said in the video, if you have variable FPS, its impossible to have smoothness, no matter what you do. You need to have your fps regulated by the headset refresh rate, if you turn it down to 60hz, you will need to see 30 fps using "Force 45fps, ASW Disable" (that is 1/2 refresh rate of 60hz) inside oculus debug tool. After that, your goal is make sure you have headroom to generate more than 30 fps all the time, that way your frames will always bee smooth. If it drop down to 29 fps, you will have a trash experience even being near the target that is 30 fps. - Put your ASW to Disable for a moment, Adjust your MSFS settings, FOV and Pixel override to generate at least 40 fps to be safe, and than activate "Force 45fps, ASW Disable" again.

Happy New Year! Which network bandwith are you using? Is your PC connected via Ethernet to the router and the headset wireless 5Gh? This is my configuration, but I'm definitely guessing whether the bottleneck could be the Internet connection, which is limited to 60-70 MBit from the access point linked via cable Cat 7 to the pc. Don't know what else I can think of... As usual, thx in advance.

Thank you so much this was really good! Followed the instructions and found the playback to be super smooth but my Quest is glitching it seems, know this is likely a setting somewhere, random black/white bars when flying. I've come to the conclusion, after some hours of messing around watching yours and many other videos, the amount of settings and tweaking needed to get the thing to run through quest is just not worth it, going back to 2d, relief! One day when it's plug and play I may consider having another go, but with so many variables due to each pc being different, it's just not worth the hours trying to sort it out, such a shame :(

To be fair, today to start the MSFS, XP11 or P3D, I only need to make 4 or 5 clicks and start flying. In the first look it sounds complicated, but you get use to it. The problem for me is try to go back to 2D or use joysticks again. The quest controllers are absolutely magic when you are using it to fly and set things inside the cockpit, It feels like you're doing that in real life.

Think a little, I don't use any eye candy in the sim, just things that are essencial for the flight operation, so my sim settings will almost be the same every time. Great Video 👍 I try to configure my Quest 3 with your settings but due to the higher resolution the Quest 3 has it gets difficult… Since you are now also using a Quest 3 what different settings (Resolution/OpenXR_Tool/Debug_Tool) are you using in comparison to the Quest 2 settings in this video? Another question: Did you manage to use the push/pull buttons on the MCP of the Fenix with the motion controllers? I activated the „locked mode“ but I‘m not able to set 2 buttons of the motion controller to either push or pull the buttons…

Quest 2 I was using with a 3080, the quest 3 its with a 4080. So I was Able to use 1.3x in oculus software and also 1.3x in debug tool supersampling, Econde bitrate to 450, FOV still 0.7 and 0.7 - This is a personal preference but have a HUUUGE impact in performance. To use the MCP , try to watch this video in the link below. You will understand how to set things up using secondary and tertiary functions on your controller. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hqO7qXmdiL-eoK8

When my plane is sitting at the runway with nothing else happening, my 3090 GPU is jumping all over the place, first from numbers in the 50's and 60's to 90-95. I dpon't understand why flightsim.exe would be jumping back and forth so much from low GPU utilization to high utlization while essentially doing almost nothing. Ideas ??

If the fps is no locked at 30 (quest at 60hz) or 36 (quest at 72hz) try to change the Vsync to 'fast' in the MSFS profile at Nvidia control panel.
@Pe11ePD
@Pe11ePD Жыл бұрын
Thanks you for your settings, but they are contradicting my settings a lot. I have 3090, and even can't get steady 36fps at 72hz, at 2500px res via OXR tool, and GPU is working at 90%. 60hz is too flickery in the headset, not good for the eyes at all. When I tried 60hz first time, I ended with visible flickering in my eyes after the short VR session, no thanks. :) I'm also using ASW (as I search for smoothness without visible frames), and FOV at ~0.95, as without glasses I can see black edges below that value, and that kills the immersion. Your explanation did makes me wonder though, why I have the stutters. There is no room for Oculus process in the GPU cycles! I will try to change encoding resolution to 2016 and test (currently at 36xx).
@fsprimo
@fsprimo Жыл бұрын
Remember, I came from an 9600k with an GTX1660 , every bit of fps matters at that time, 60hz its not comfortable at all, everybody knows that. I'm a pilot, so eye candy stuff are not anything near my priorities, if you're not being able to get 36fps in a 3090, you need to think about this priorities too. FOV its a huge performance aid, if you are struggling to approach in JFK for example, you need to think ahead and plan reduce to .8 at least just for that scenario. And again, VR its not a win win every time, you need to loose something to get it right. And I hate ASW ... period.

Same, only new lenses, clear edge to edge. To be fair, I lost a little bit of performance because with quest 2 I was able to set the screens in 60hz (lock in 30fps) and the quest 2 is 72hz minimum, so my sim need to run at 36fps, (20% more frames)

60hz is way too low. I usually run at 90hz and then lock the ASW to 30 fps. It’s butter smooth. I’m on an Intel i7 10700 and RTX 3080. Try Oculus Tray Tool instead, along with OpenXR Toolkit.

Thanks for the tutorial! A few questions: Why use Riva Tuner at all? You can see an FPS counter in OpenXR Toolkit to confirm the 30fps lock. Also, in the Quest App, my slider at 72hz shows a 1.3x multiplier when maxed out? Following your tutorial yields my GPU (3080) performance around 50%. The flight is smooth but would really like the distance to be less fuzzy. Last, how did you do the math to come up with 2016? If I bump up the FOV Tangent to .8 or .9 should that value change? Thanks 🤙🏽
@fsprimo
@fsprimo Жыл бұрын
I use riva tuner to lock the FPS when in cruise or when I'm not looking for the screen, this is to maintain the GPU temperature lower (from 80 to 61°) The quest at 1.3x its ok, you will use the super sampling multiplier in the ODT anyways. About using 50% of GPU performance, you will need to adjust to your needs, if you are having no stutters and the performance is stable, you can crank it up to 70% usage or even more. Nowadays with a new Processor 13600k, I'm able to increase the resolution from 2016 to 3500 and have the same GPU usage, again, this depends on your system, change it, restart it and see for your self how it behave All the settings that I mentioned in this video are the most CPU/GPU hungry. My goal is to show people where they can try to squeeze more performance. People have fear of test those things out, that's why I made this video.

@@fsprimo gotcha and yes I just spent a good 4 hours experimenting. Appreciate you teaching the general approach for sure. I ended up using 3664 for the encoder width and .75 FOV Tangent which greatly improved the look. Also set Distortion Curvature to low. I’m around 70-87% now, but that’s with 72hz. Oddly, when I bump up the encoder width, it seems to not like the Sidequest 60hz trick to lock in 30fps. I get major hiccups as soon as try 60hz so I gave up. It works at 2016 fine. Only issue now is, in 72hz with the mentioned settings, when I look out the cockpit to the left and right while moving, things messy with terrain and buildings. Almost looks like double vision. Currently troubleshooting. Any ideas?

@GUNNERBASS
@GUNNERBASS Жыл бұрын
@@fsprimo figured it out but unexpectedly. I mistook your settings and did 45fps, ASW disabled. Setting it to enabled solved the double vision at 72hz but there were still stutters and bad performance with motion. I also had to go to 1.2x in Oculus at 72hz. For whatever reason the 60hz trick with Sidequest wouldn’t remain stable for me no matter what. Not even exiting and resetting to 72 (default) worked, once it went haywire. After trying a million settings, I decided to give DX12 a go and voila. The 60hz trick works and is stable. I was able to bump back to max resolution in Oculus also. So basically by switching to DX12 I was able to follow your tuturiol perfectly and I maxed the encode up to 4092, and set bitrate at 500. Not sure why DX12 made it better since everywhere I read bad things about DX12 and MSFS (and other games as well). I’m now using your technique in conjunction with OTT which makes life a lot easier. Can’t wait to try this out in other games now too! Really interested to see how this might work with Star Wars Squadrons! Thanks again 🤙🏽
