It depends on the biggest deal-breaker is for you. The Quest 3 is sharper, however, out the box comfort is poor (with that god-awful strap). The lenses are better, but the biggest winner for me, was the better FOV and contrast/black levels on PSVR2. For example, in Phasmophobia, the black levels and fov completely put you into the world. It was much harder to lose myself when playing this on the Quest. Yes, it's not as sharp, but the FOV + black levels + nose curtain (to completely block out outside light) + comfort makes it more immersive to me. The lesser render latency is noticeable as well, due to it being DP cable, unlike Quest that has to decode and render the signal. You will notice that in the more twitchy games. So, don't let sharpness only be the biggest decider.
@KindOldRavenАй бұрын
Yeah, imho you're on the right track here. For me Quest 3 wins when using aftermarket headstraps, but for dark/atmospheric games you can't beat the PSVR2. Even with things like mura, it's not even close. For bright/colorful games or open worlds, I'd take the Q3 though due to the much higher level of sharpness I get there. Man, I'd love to see a pancake lens'd (micro)OLED VR headset one day ;p Y'know, below a 1000 bucks. I might get a PSVR2 again (sold mine, kept q3 a while back) when it's on sale one day. Would be nice to have it for PS5 + as a dedicated PCVR wired headset.

The Quest 2 came out only a year after Quest 1 and at the *same time* they were still developing the Quest Link feature, and it was not a huge revision of the hardware so I'm not surprised by it maintaining the same cable. Quest 3 is where things finally diverged because it was based off the Quest Pro headset. And there's no reason a USB C cable couldn't carry the required data, as DisplayPort runs over USB-C and has far higher bandwidth than most HDMI specs which is why it's used for high end, high resolution high refresh rate monitors with enhanced HDR bit rates. So they *could* do it over that spec if they feel demand is sufficient. We'll see what they do.

@Nago154 ай бұрын
I had both, and I never noticed tha PSVR2 has better FOV. I'm not even sure it has wider FOV than my Quest2 with a thin face cover. The thing is the PSVR2 has a very small room for you nose, and because it has sharp hard plastic edges around the lenes, it if touches your nose, it's painful and completely ruining comfort. My friend with a slightly larger nose wasn't able to use it for more than 10 minutes because it was so uncomfortble for him. This means, even if the PSVR2 has a larger FOV in theory, if you have to put the lenses further for nose comfort, you end up with smaller FOV and a smaller sweet spot too. Meanwthile a Quest has so much nose space, you can use even a thinner face cover than the default one and still nothing touches your nose, so you can easily end up with higher FOV than you can achieve on the PSVR2. If you are desperate for FOV you can also set a larger IPD on the Quest3 than your real value because the sweet spot is so large you will not even notice it. One I used my Quest3 with my firend's larger IPD for a week and only noticed it when a 3D movie felt a little flat and I relized my IPD was 4mm off:D

This isn't really a good reason when you consider you can buy "infinite" link cables that use external power to keep the Quest 3 charged during play in PCVR. All they do is hook up to an external charger like the one your phone might use for fast charging to provide more power to the headset than the PC's USB port would've been able to. If you ever decide to go wireless, a good external power bank would get you 8 hours or more of wireless play for the Quest 3. You should make a decision based off the specs and hardware of each device, and what you value more rather than this, which as I showed can be easily solved.

I tried the Quest 3 and the image was fine but a bit lightbin the blacks. And the default strap is amazingly terrible, do you will absoluteluly need to get a replacement strap. The on board audio is good, but lacks the punch headphones give and can be a bit tinny. I think like you do Tetiana, that the Displayport technology of the PSVR2 really negates the advantage of the pancake lenses of the Quest 3, that compression on both wireless and USB degrades the image too much and also requires lots of GPU processing power to minimise the compression artifacts, with a PSVR2 you can plug it into a 2080ti and still get a perfect artifact free experience. The really impressive OLED displays with the uncorrupted displayport experience really pushes the PSVR2 to the front for that more realistic looking artifact free VR experience, god only knows what HDR will bring when it is unlocked for the PSVR2? The Quest 3 is better for people who are more interested in trying stand alone Meta games or mixed reality experiences and are willing to sacrifice color vibrancy, black levels and brightness in favour of a multi function VR device, I for one would never wear a head mounted 4k wifi streaming device for hours at a time either, I would plug it in just to be on the safe side because it seems like only yesterday when they were telling us not to hold mobile phones next to our heads, it just does not sound even remotely safe for long term exposure to me?

There's a huge difference between cellular connections and WiFi though. Both in transmission power and frequency. According to the Wikipedia page on wireless radiation: "if a person spends one year in a location with a WiFi hot spot, they will receive the same dose of radio waves as if they had made a 20-minute call on a mobile phone". Granted some of that is due to the distance to the WiFi hotspot, which doesn't quite apply to a VR headset, but also don't forget that it's receiving the majority of the data. Not transmitting it. That's not saying either is "good", but holding a cellphone next to your head, transmitting at a power where it can reach a cell tower a good long distance away is something entirely different than WiFi. Even if it's a VR headset.

But if you have enough knowledge on the subject to feel safe indulging in the activity then that is up to the individual, for me its just a matter of plugging the cable into the PC and playing tethered.

From all the comparison footage I've seen of both, even with the compression the Quest 3 looks way clearer than the PSVR2. The PSVR2 has an anti-SDE filter on the display that makes the image a lot more hazy and the odd sub pixel layout both adds mura and color fringing on text. Motion wise the Q3 is also still better as shown by blur busters (even if you'd expect OLED to be better). Really the only reasons to get the PSVR2 are for the higher brightness and better blacks. If what you value in your image is the colors and the contrast, the PSVR2 will be better, but that's basically where it ends. HDR also won't help the PSVR2 as it was shown to make the motion look even worse due to the brightness increase being achieved by reducing the blanking interval of the display. Yes it makes the image brighter, but at the cost of clarity in motion. Many on PS5 even reported this with turning the displays brightness down fixing the problem. I personally also wouldn't recommend the PSVR2 to others due to compatibility issues. I've had a WMR headset so I know the pain of launching a game with it saying to press a button you don't have. Yes you can use external programs to get around it, but that's added complexity which makes people even less likely to use their headset. The need to also buy a special bluetooth adapter and the shotty reliability they've had only makes it worse. It's a damn cool headset for a tinkerer, but I feel that's where it ends.
@techinfusions4 ай бұрын
Have you actually used a PSVR2 on a PC? you sound like you are just reading out a list of complaints and technical jargon about sde filters and rgb pentile's that you read about somewhere online without having experienced the PSVR2 connected to a PC with your own eyes? You mention the only reason to get a PSVR2 over a Quest 3 for PCVR gaming is the Brightness, Color fidelity, Contrast and the pure Black levels, but that is exactly what makes it such a great PCVR headset, the image quality is the big attraction here. I too came from WMR via a Reverb G1 and then a G2, and I can tell you now that the PSVR2 has somthing that LCD displays just do not provide, and that is the presence factor where the image gives you a realism that LCDs do not have, and those pure black levels, vibrant colors and high brightness even without HDR just really add so much to the atmosphere of a VR game. The perfectly clean video signal through the displayport also adds to the experience as well. The first thing you notice going from a Quest 3 to a PSVR2 is that the Quest 3 displays look dim and the colors look washed out in comparison with poor Black levels to go with it. What are the compatibility problems you are talking about, most of the bluetooth adapter issues are lack of updated drivers, most modern motherboards with integrated Bluetooth work perfectly with the PC adapter, this is PCVR not the console world, the Reverb G2 had its own technical issues as I recall from personal experience. Also the PSVR2 behaves just like any other PCVR headset there are already SteamVR profiles for the VR2 controllers available in many PCVR games and the Index controller bindings are working perfectly for other games.
@Skylancer7274 ай бұрын
@techinfusions no I don't have both, but I have seen direct camera footage of both showing that the complaints seem to be true. Didn't honestly see as many pointing out the color fringing as I noticed. I did check one my other OLED headsets and I did notice it's a problem there so the footage is likely correct. And personally the Quest 3 looks a lot more life like than my older OLED headset, though it is higher res. I don't think OLED is the be all end all that people speak of it as. Contrast matters but to me clarity matters far more for VR and just seeing those quality tests the PSVR2 does seem far behind the Quest 3. And the compression arguments are just a total waste of time. People make the same pointless argument about AI upscaling and DSC on flat gaming. Even the professional calibraters recommend both as nearly unrecognizable. The main flaw of compression is more the latency which is about 1-2 frames. About the same as having V sync enabled. If V sync never bothered you this likely won't either. And you can make LCD screens to the same caliber as OLED, just none of the headsets on the market use anything that spectacular. Kinda sucks the Quest Pro is the only one with FALD. Just look how many of the top TVs have LCDs and most of them have higher color volume than the OLED models. The current highest is an OLED display, but it's QD-OLED and the blacks aren't perfect on them. Again, just goes to show that the hype around the tech may be preceeding it.

I have a Quest 2, and I just want a new headset without any video compression.

nice review! i am comparing this week my quest 3 vs the psvr2 with pc adapter,its a hard compare and game independent.. Lets say starwars squadron is way more immersive on the psvr2 and offcourse dark(nightflights) or horror games..But then you miss the clarity from the quest3.. But then again the rumble on the controllers is much stronger on the psvr2 what i like..But i found the psvr2 more lifelike in some games and more immersive.. But for now i keep them both.. Also i did halflife alex on both headsets somehow i found the quest 3 more clinical and the psvr2 more lifelike somehow.. But then again yes the mura and small sweetspot on the psvr2.. the starwars game...Its mindblowing with the right settings ingame on the psvr2... We need an oled with pancake lenses and a the field off view off the old valve index

PCVR developers do not utilise any of the PSVR2 missing features, DFR is used on the PS5 to supercharge the processing of the VR Graphics, PCs generally use brute force not DFR to do the same thing, the Quest Pro had eye tracked DFR technology but nobody bothered to write any game updates to use it other than MSFS> The same with HDR and the adaptive triggers PCVR games do not have these features either, they are all unique to PSVR2 games. Saying that though I read that Steam will be adding HDR10 SDK to SteamVR and that could mean HDR will actually be available to developers, so the other features are bound to follow if the demand is there.

I just bought a PSVR2 and - I'm sending it back. The black levels are amazing, but the fresnel lenses completely ruin any visuals the blacks help out. The visual distortion across the lenses are monstrously detrimental to enjoying the image in the headset. The lenses are actually worse than the Quest2. Probably because the PSVR2 is wobbly on the head, so your super-tiny sweet spot is never lined up right. Its shocking how bad it is. FWIW, I originallt bought it for my PS5 - but the controllers don't function in games - which is a recognized fault with this headset. Garbage.. wish it wasn't - but it really is.

With Virtual Desktop on Godlike resolution, with 200mbps hevc 10 bit or AV1, even the compressed image should look sharper and cleaner than the PSVR2 image. Second, the best comfort mod for PSVR2 is the Globular Cluster, but even with that it's still not as comfortable as a Quest3 with a good strap and face cover.

@@menmabmx1995 The PlayStation VR2 (PSVR2) and Oculus Quest 3 are two prominent VR headsets, each with its own strengths. Here's a comparison of how the PSVR2 might be considered better than the Oculus Quest 3 in certain aspects: 1. Display Quality PSVR2: It features a 4K HDR OLED display with a resolution of 2000 x 2040 per eye. This setup provides vibrant colors and deep blacks, enhancing the overall visual experience. Oculus Quest 3: It has a higher resolution than its predecessor but is generally considered to be slightly lower in display quality compared to the PSVR2. 2. Haptic Feedback and Adaptive Triggers PSVR2: The headset includes advanced haptic feedback and adaptive triggers in its Sense controllers, offering a more immersive and tactile experience that can simulate various textures and sensations. Oculus Quest 3: While it offers good controller tracking and feedback, it does not have the same level of advanced haptics or adaptive triggers. 3. Inside-Out Tracking PSVR2: It uses inside-out tracking with a system of cameras on the headset itself, which can provide precise tracking of the controllers and the user’s movement. Oculus Quest 3: It also uses inside-out tracking but with a different approach and tracking capabilities that might not be as refined as the PSVR2's system. 4. Integration with PlayStation 5 PSVR2: It is designed to work seamlessly with the PlayStation 5, leveraging the console’s powerful hardware to deliver high-quality VR experiences. Oculus Quest 3: It is a standalone device that doesn't rely on external hardware, which offers flexibility but may not match the PSVR2's graphics and processing power in comparison to a high-end console like the PS5. 5. Exclusive Games and Content PSVR2: It benefits from exclusive titles and experiences developed specifically for the PlayStation ecosystem, which can offer unique and high-quality VR content. Oculus Quest 3: While it has a broad library of games, it may not have access to the same exclusive content as PSVR2. 6. Comfort and Build PSVR2: The design focuses on comfort with adjustable fit, making it suitable for extended gaming sessions. Oculus Quest 3: Also designed for comfort but individual experiences may vary.

@@therazor9927 The Oculus Quest 3, while having a solid library of games and experiences, does not currently offer the same level of AAA game titles with the same graphical fidelity as those available on the PSVR2. I bought a PSVR2 PC adapter, but I don't use it anymore. First of all, the sweet spot and eye box of the lens are very bad. When I used the PSVR2 and then used the Q3, it felt like I bought new glasses. The true black and high brightness of the OLED panel of the PSVR2 are impressive, but the overall resolution and clarity of the Q3 are better. (Also, the PSVR2 has a grainy SDE feeling throughout the screen.) Crucially, many games do not support the PSVR2 controller. For example, when I tried running the Walking Dead S&S Chapter 1, it asked me to press a specific button on the HTC VIVE controller. That button does not exist on the PSVR2 controller, and as a result, I could not proceed further from the main menu.

Quantum dot LCDs actually tend to have a higher color volume than generic OLED. There is quantum dot OLED as well showing how OLED benefits from the same color boost as LCDs. The reason for this rumor is that there really aren't garbage tier OLED panels like there are LCDs. About the BLACKS, not always it's good to use TOTAL BLACK for our eyes, VR ir is one of those cases, the OLED displays are very bad (at least the cheap ones as on the PSVR2) to get a good amount of BLACK LEVELS (Spectrum/Gamma/Gradients), So yes, amazing that you see "real" black, but you can't see good "not totally black/very dark greys" on Oled, because it jumps from a total black to a medium grey on the gradients, so there is LESS "blacks/dark greys" gradients information on the very low light/darkness scenes/images compared with a LCD, so ... I prefer to see good gradients of dark greys than a one TOTAL black and SOME high greys gradients on dark scenes. Also, about your eyes health, the Pupil/Iris of our eyes are always adjusting the amount of light depending on the scenes to see in dark or bright places, if there is a bright light near to a dark place, we can't see good detail in the dark place because the pupil/iris adjust for the high light, if there is no bright light, the iris open and we see better details on the dark surfaces/scenes, OLED never show us the darkness with more detail, even without bright lights on the scene, that create a lot of STRAIN on our eyes fighting trying to get black info by wide opening the iris to let enter more light on darkness, then the scene changed and then get in flashed with a bright light again, that opening and closing iris on our eyes create a lot of strain/stress, on LCD because there is dark gradients information, the eyes are more relaxed because you see detail/gradients image info in dark scenes because are not TOTALLY blackness. You can call that like OLED black bias ZERO ... LCD black bias more than ZERO, that's good for our eyes. In less words, to have a display that it is Hight Dynamic Range (HDR), that means the difference between max light and total black it's very high (High Contrast), it's not good at all for our eyes, much less in front of our eyes covering the whole FOV, because that contrast/amount of light it's not being real time adjusted as our eyes do in real life
@Skylancer7274 ай бұрын
The main thing that ruins the blacks is just the lenses. Aspheric lenses do have some internal reflections that do kill the perfect blacks.

@@Skylancer727 Sorry but in the case of Quest 3 or any headset that use LCD and not OLED. the totally black thing has nothing to do nor it's related to the lenses, Internal reflections create just a little glow around high contrast elements on the image, but the blacks that are not black, comes from the LCD that use backlight for the whole display, just like an LCD monitor, the LCD can't be absolutely closed in between pixels nor totally polarized to not let light pass thru, so always there is some light leak that it is the dark grey in a totally black image, because of that constant backlight illumination
