This, to me, seems like the last step between the old VR generation and the next one. It's probably fairly good value, but within the next year or maybe two at most there'll be a far more significant leap is my guess. The quest 4 will be the upgrade most people are looking for in comparison to this one. That said, the AR or mixed reality potential and the panacakes are definitely interesting, and the value is there for first time buyers.

The closer the headset comes to your centre of mass the lighter it will feel. The slimming of the HMD was a pretty smart way of making it more comfortable without skimping on the hardware.

Uhh mate Quest 3 is using the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR Gen 2 Adreno 730 which is just 2.4tflops of power, it's literally just a bit more capable mobile chip compared to Quest 2 1.1tflops but not much to use even at "full power" PlayStation 5 has 10.3tflops available for PSVR 2 to take full advantage of, meaning it will be weaker in comparison

One of the biggest selling points for me is not having the tracking rings. On my old Quest 1, I went through two sets of controllers because the rings broke on them. Also the mixed reality capabilities along with 3x performance will be amazing for larger games such as Pavlov Shack.

It's really hard for me to legitimately justify upgrading just for having no rings, but dear god. The amount of times I hit my controllers against each other when I'm boxing or I hit my cheek or headset when I pull back on the drawstring on a bow is OBNOXIOUS.

The big thing for me is likely the better IPD adjustment. The Quest 2's maximum IPD is below my IPD, so while it's certainly usable, it often makes me feel a bit cross-eyed at times. As a result, I'd strongly prefer something with my actual IPD as an option.

For the Quest 2 there already fitness games that make use of handtracking and AR. That works great. Imagine how it would be on the Quest 3! I hope that one day soon, we don't need to use controllers at all. Just grab the headset and put it on your head.. and you can start! I never anticipated a device so much like the Quest 3. One thing that nobody ever said is how important IPD adjustments are, and that every time you want to "show off" your VR headset, you have to adjust to everyone's IPD. Somebody need to make an automatic IPD adjustment so that it's easier to share VR headsets during party...

This was a major problem for me last year. I produced an application that simulated colour blindness and other visual impairments. I had to allow visitors to experience it while in a booth. Most said it was blury or looked 'cross-eyed'. Auto adjustment would be amazing. (Quest 2)

The Pro is dropping in price now and so whilst that is discontinued, there are enough around to make it competition for the Quest 3, for me at least as I just could never justify paying over $1000 for it, but now I see many listed for almost half that. The battery in the back making the front light is a big plus for me as I use my current Quest 2 more for watching media lying down than gaming and from many reviews it seems the pro is ideal for that purpose.

It won't ever be competition for the Quest 3. The performance is significantly worse and the price will still be higher than the Quest 3. Meta simply made a gigantic mistake using the same chip for the Pro. It's a deluxe Quest 2 aimed at the business market. The Quest 3 is a consumer device meant for personal usage and gaming.

Probably pretty minor and overlooked, but god im happy that they brought back the quest 1 headstrap design with the traingle in the back. For me that was the single biggest comfort downgrade when they switched it for the quest 2 and now it might finally be possible again, to play with the normal headstrap

Honestly I don't think that jump is all that impressive. The Quest 2's chip wasn't state of the art to begin with and getting a chip that delivers 3x more performance about 3 years later isn't all that impressive. It no doubt pales in comparison to Apple's chip's performance. I'm not saying it's trash or anything... just that they definitely could've pushed performance more if they really tried.

Also I believe color in general looks better on OLED. Still thinking about it really.

I definitely won't upgrade since what im getting from this is that it will have a better chip and better resolution. Both of those i couldn't really care cause i play PCVR and the resolution is more than fine for me. What im worried though is at one point obviously people are going to stop producing products for quest 2 i.e headstraps, controller grips, protective lenses ect. So if something breaks ill have to go back to the default strap and stuff. I don't see myself upgrading a VR headset until a cheap one comes out with wider FOV (Probably Quest 4 or even a new Valve headset).

personally, i don't care about the mixed reality/color passthrough, nor do i have a use for it. i game, not watch things. I wish there were customizability options on the quest 3, such as changing the color, LCD to OLED, having the option to buy it without the color passthrough, having the ability to pick between the controller tracking on the MQ2P vs the MQ2 (camera's instead of tracking rings). really just things like that could mean that users could personalize their experience, or remove features for cost. EDIT: i do realize that the passthrough is needed for point cloud boundary tracking but my point still stands. also i still just don't have the need for color passthrough.

Sold my 64gb quest 2 for £160. It was collecting dust. Great bit of kit but after a full day at work and kids after I'm too tired to swing, duck etc. 2d gaming is so much easier. Quest 3 won't change that. However the improved lenses and shape should make it less cumbersome

Is this headset worth it if you already have a quest 2 and only use it for full body vrc, and beatsaber My controllers got stick drift on both and my strap is broken completely i made a DIY strap but other rhen that it runs completely fine My pupil distance is 55m which is below average and i heard the quest 3 is suitable dor 53mm because of the oancake lenses. One last thing how would it affect pcvr would it look better more crisp more frames? (Aka how will vrchat look compared to the quest 2)

I think it is definetly worth it but I would then try to sell my quest 2 for a good price and try to get a quest 3 for cheap. For pcvr regarding the frames and lag that depends on your PC but the resolution will definetly be higher.

The cable doesn't have to yank on your USB port at all if you put a weight on the the cable itself close to where it connects to the USB port. Easy fix. @@Phoenixia0

Only reason I'd upgrade from my Pico 4 is if PCVR is a significant step up. And I doubt we'll know anything about that until actual review units are distributed. I don't really care about standalone functionality beyond a few smaller games to kill time with like golfing or something and sometimes watching a 3D video (the quality of most of them is pretty awful, so also only if the quality is good enough).
