Damn. I just happened across this while idling at work and decided to listen while wandering around and now it's got me in my feels. Good video, my dude. Good video.

What a debut! Absolutely hilarious, well-thought and well-spoken, a dash of heartbreaking melancholy for good measure, and of course some utter fucking nonsense that is indeed "My Jam."

I remember being super excited to rent an N64 for a weekend as a kid along with this game. I played for a day only to realize that I didn’t have the hardware to save my file... turned off the console and came back the next day to play the beginning hours of the game over again, only to return the system that night and lose my progress again. Childish naïveté, loss, repetition, wondering what could have been; clearly I’m not the only one that has a distorted nostalgic view of this game- after watching this I’m glad that I didn’t go back and do a full adult play through haha, thank you for your sacrifice AJ, and great job, looking forward to more!

Quest 64, Buck Bumble and Glover are the 3 N64 games that everyone seems to hate that I love.

I didn't know I needed this until I watched it. "I've stumbled into a secret I was keeping from myself."

I lost it after after you called Mammon the two eyed two horned flying purple people eater. 😅 I played through quest 64 three times in my life time. Only on the 3rd playthrough did I find the teleporter that leads to the ancient pyramid "city" that has Lavar in the dindom dries. PS: Yeah I didn't mind Quest64 (obviously with 3 playthrough lol) although it's FAR from perfect and the random encounters got really tiring but yeah... FUUUUUCK that ice cave area.

both of the essays on this channel are ones I know I'll be rewatching over and over. It has changed the way I look at the world and stories (more interesting than a lecture) and I'm so incredibly grateful. I'm always so excited for the next upload.

45:20 okay man after hearing this first statement you had me laughing my ass off again. Definitely subscribed, hope to see more cool stuff in the future. Oh shit... Not to mention shedding a single tear at the end after hearing your story about your grandma. My grandma got me Paper Mario for Christmas and I always remember her when I play that game. I'm glad my grandma had better taste in video games than yours did. Haha just kidding.

I also received this game on Christmas '98, I was little and I also appreciate the game a lot for the nostalgia. It definitely would have been an amazing one if certain things had been polished. Still i love it. Thanks for reviving the moments and memories from this little gem.

Heard about this catching up on some episodes of No Cartridge. Good stuff. You tell me about a deep, emotional dive on a bad N64 game and I'll watch.

I dont jive with your humor at all, it was almost painful to slog through each gag bit, but it was all worth it. Your heartfelt honesty and feelings about this game really did it justice. I feel like, on their own, duds like Q64 really are little more than wastes of time for the people who made them, until they make it into the hands of someone who appreciates them, and they transform thanks to the life the passionate player is able to breathe into them. Ive had a love/hate relationship with Q64 myself; played it as a kid just like you. And it was so annoying and punishing. But i talked to everyone and thus didnt miss out on the story, and my young child mind was able to take those remnants of lore and flavor text and craft a larger, more grand world of it than the creators had managed to actually make. And ive lived with one foot in that fantasy and one in the reality that no, the game is absolutely a steaming turd. So seeing videos like this from other people like me who connected with this game and saw its potential really get me, right in the heart. Nice cosplay, man. ❤

Any chance of you guys ever doing anything like this again? I loved it and I even shared it a couple of times. It's why I can basically always recognize Josh's voice and have about a 50-50 track record recognizing AJ... This is a very poignant and well-made video. It sucks it didn't pop off.

Oh That was Brian, not AJ. 🙃 Well, at least I can usually recognize Josh's voice. 🤷♀️

Your instinct was correct, this was A.J.'s video! And the truth of it is, we'd love to make more videos, but, at the moment it doesn't seem financially feasible to do so. Once we grow the podcast to the point where we could bring people on to help make it, we do have some ideas we'd love to try but that probably won't be for a while, barring some unexpectedly exponential growth. But truly, thank you for sharing the video! It means the world that the people who've seen it seem to really dig it and, for now, that's enough for us.
