I wasn't planning on making a video today, but we have some big news from an AMA with Boz directly from Meta about the Augments, one of the most awaited features we were expecting for our QUEST.
But it's not all, as Varjo actually invented a Teleport Time Machine and Xreal just started the preorders for their phone. wait what?!?

I think a killer app for VR would be the ability to do that and then transform your mapped space into a suite over looking the Seine or Tokyo Harbor or Malibu, with any amenity you would like to add (fireplace, theater etc.). To be able to come home from work and relax in a luxury space anywhere you desire would be soooo good.

Teleport... how cool it would have been to have had this technology 40 years ago, and for a kid version of me to have previously recorded and now be able to walk around my childhood home in VR, complete with all it's original furnishings and knickknacks, family members, pets etc. The best I could have hoped for was some grainy polaroid photo. Kids of today are in for exciting times ahead.

That Varjo "teleportation" uses gaussian splatting, there are several software's out there that you can use on other headsets also. Gracia for example offers this on quest headsets.

Its a shame, that the ocolus go's home was more interactiv and more friendly to invite people, play a table game or watch a movie in the corner.

I actually hated and hate both the Quest 2 and 3's Home environments for that reason. Even your ability to move about in the Quest 1 Home areas was (for awhile), better than it was/is in the Quest 2 and 3, and the Rift S areas were highly explorable and chageable. It's just bull to me that we have such a huge Home Area in most every Quest environment--but no option to "explore" within those areas, save for in a relatively tiny area that we have to freaking "jump" to. I know the Quest is supposed to be a "gaming" headset, and you supposedly won't spend much time in your Home environments, but it's like Meta really doesn't want you to interact with other Quest users by giving them a place to come to within your own headset. Unless, that is, they use Horizons.

Honestly, since Q3 has brought passthrough home environment, I don't use the virtual ones anymore. I prefer to launch apps and browse with a virtual window in my actual reality. I didn't think this would be the case, but I love it so much and can't go back to virtual home environments anymore 😅

​@Simkets Quest 3 is my first quest headset and I mostly just use the pass through view as my home. It is a shame though that they left us Rift S users homeless on PC.

Sounds like Meta is actually just postponing Augments, not shutting the idea of doing them down completely. I'm good with that, if it means that when they do come out with them, they're what they (andthose of us who are the users) want them to be.

Augments are basically 3d widgets like on an android home screen. They are better implementing it like that than making it more difficult for themselves.

Ok let me correct some thing about augemnts... 1. they are a proven tech as they are used all the time in aerospace and cars, Google glass, AVP and pokemon go and even Quest 3 with the VR mode, the menu bar and safety circle scan... 2. it sounds like they are working but do to the bone headed softwear design of the Quest 3 that honestly should never have been the case... It will be just delayed till they can remake it... Like why all the gloom and doom and click bait?

I hate meta so much. I was promised augments 8 months ago. Just released them. Other people have made apps that took less time than these dumb augments just release them

While it's possible to place 3 pc screens in your room in every size and place you want with virtual desktop (one guy developement). Facebook has problems with little phone apps to be placed in quest bahahaha. Marketing advertising people aren't very good in tech. Bet in the meantime 10000 facebook employees are working on horizon worlds bahahaha facebook stinks and promises but never gives. Vr legs? Splintercell vr? Gta vr? Walk around in home environment(it'snot rocketscience), bluetooth delay. Audio delay while recording. They never should fired the real vr people from the orginale oculus team.

Yea that not how that works, meta did make it but like they mention it doesn't fulfill the vision they wanted augments to do which is not limited by hardware but with the architecture of the operating system so far. I can also easily make a vr app that can place screens anywhere in unity, but that's now how it works for meta. The home environment is different.
