What's the point if it only last 7 months and replacing take months at a time. Support is next to zero. I like the idea of Pimax but QC need a massive overhaul. Don't want to spend a ton of money if it breaks all the time and that even if u get a good 1 in the first place.

Few reasons to dislike it: It is dangerous for human life since these lens can easily causes infections, irritate eyes, possibility to cause blindness...It seems very useless to me and to the most audience who are targeted by the business owner, no one really needs this in their life. It is very unneeded, dont wanna spend more time commenting..

The quest 2 is blurrier, not as clear. But because of that it seems like you can't see as much screen door/individual pixel effect. Some people may prefer that even over Quest 3 right? I lean that way. Hoping the next quest really gives a nice resolution boost so that the picture will look smoother even with the crystal clear pancake lenses.

I'm super disappointed to hear that the passthrough is darker and grainier than the Quest 3, despite having higher resolution cameras. Could it be that passthrough would improve if you took off the front shade?

Pimax had to start shipping the headsets in the end of January, but after CES with all these problems (distortions, mura, scan lines) they replaced on their website from end of January to Q1 not saying a word like it was by default and they can do it again replacing to Q2 without any explanation or updates. That's how they treat their customers. They always ask to join their discord, but regular users being in a hundred times more useful than Pimax in it. All questions are being ignored that relates crystal super.

Do your touch controllers work with the Windows 11 virtual monitors? Older version of Meta Remote Desktop did not work that way. You were forced to use the mouse and keyboard for cursor control. It feels awkward using the mouse and keyboard. Virtual Desktop and Steam work using the touch controllers.

I don't understand why they would not want to target the gaming market as well. If it's ultimately a vr headset instead of glasses, and can render amazing graphics, why on earth would they not wan to add controllers and open it up to gaming. The gaming market is so, so much bigger than folks willing to spend $500+ on portable monitors.

I was fortunate enough to use the Super, and all the other awesome VR/XR tech while at CES this year. And my experience with the Super has me very excited for its launch. I used the Super for about 30 minutes on Friday, between the three models they had on demo, and the headset improved on every aspect that I wanted more of from the Crystal and Crystal Light. The FOV was immediately noticeable (I measured 118°horizontal by 102° vertical using testHMD), as was the brightness, clarity, reduced size, colors, sweet spot and balance. While the headset wasn’t perfect, the issues it did have can be fixed before launch. Like distortion profiles and local dimming. There was slight mura as well but I had to actively look for it and needed a light background to see it. Dropping the brightness of the headset very little also more or less erased it from being noticeable. I’m excited for the Super to launch, because even at the state it was in at CES on Friday, we have a great headset that improves on nearly every aspect of the Crystal.

The WiGiG that was designed needs the XR2 chip. Like the Kickstarter headsets that use 12v it is less likely we might see a wireless solution. If you recall the abandoned WiGiG for those headsets was only going to work iirc the usb power platform before they abandoned it completely. Too many abandoned commitments like the sword sense and the stick version

I would rather have 160hz on the og crystal keep everything the same. Wireless is cool but the quest 3 is great for that. The resolution on the og crystal is so good it needed dp2.1 compatibility to do the 160hz. If they did a 1440p downscale on crystal that did 160hz that would still look better than the quest 3 and be the most competitive headset ever for fast moving games because it has lighthouse tracking available

What did you think of fan noise from the Wigig module when you tried it? When I've heard it on recordings before, it sounded like a little jet engine. Very loud. Requiring a second battery is ridiculous. It makes the fact of the OG Crystal having had a battery all along that customers have had to deal with totally a useless waste. This is what that battery was supposed to be for. But it failed at everything it was intended to do, so its effectively just dead weight that can limit the headset's endurance even while wired.

@@JaapGrolleman I appreciate you reaching out. The only problem is the PC hardware to run the Crystal Super at full res doesn't exist yet, hell, even the Crystal Light can't run at full res for most titles especially sims (both racing and flight) and this is using a 7800X3D, 64 gigs of 6000 cl30 ram and a 4090. I love my Crystal Light but run it at 0.8 (80%) resolution settings in the Pimax Play software, but due to it's pixel density and it's local dimming it looks amazingly good even at lower resolutions. I doubt the new 5090 will be much improvement for high res VR as compared to the 4090, I'm expecting it to be roughly 15% better since VR cannot use frame gen and all the marketing smoke and mirrors nVidia used at the launch event, VR will let us see the true grunt of the 5090, my guess, it won't be as good as people think it will be. I hope I'm wrong.
@SargonDragon
@SargonDragon 6 күн бұрын
The higher resolution headsets coming out in 2025 are still going to produce higher clarity even at the same rendering resolution. The idea that the GPU has to scale along with the panels is an outdated holdover from flat monitors that doesn't actually apply to VR. Better lenses and higher resolution panels will increase clarity passively even with no increase in GPU performance. Which isn't to say that increasing GPU performance as well isn't desirable. It is. The 5090 isn't as big a generational leap over the 4090 as we'd like, but so far all the tests I've seen have been with flat gaming. And they show the 5090's advantage increasing more as resolution increases. It's possible/likely that this trend continues with high resolution VR headsets, and we'll see an uplift greater than the 30% average seen in flat gaming tests. The uplift from the 3090 to the 4090 followed this pattern for VR vs flat. Flat gaming tests suggested ~60% increase. But my own result in VRChat were 100%. Literally doubled the frame rate. So we'll see what happens once we can start getting some VR benchmarks.

The people looking towards the 50x0 series are dillusional. There is no GPU that can run modern titles at full 2x 4k resolution. There never will be. When stronger GPUs are released, software that leverages their capabilities will also become available, immediately making the GPUs insufficient to drive these high resolution VR headsets. VR and modern titles will always demand beefy up-to-date GPUs. But to get us across the finish line this will also necessitate foveated rendering , which shaves off some of the resolution. As opposed to the silly idea modern GPUs represent a solution, that actually is one. The solution is software. Not hardware.
@SargonDragon
@SargonDragon 6 күн бұрын
@@a5cent I already run games at 2x 4k resolution. Have done for years. You're right that there's a lot of improvement to make in software. The rendering pipeline is designed around flat monitors and is inefficient for VR. But to say that improving hardware is not also involved is going too far. The answer is both hardware and software. The 5090 will improve VR graphics over prior GPUs. It actually doesn't matter whether it keeps up with VR panel resolutions. Any increase you can get in the rendering resolution will improve clarity.
@a5cent

@@SargonDragon Read my comment again. You are repeating a point I already acknowledged but missed the main point. As to you running modern titles at 2x 4k... I'm happy to call BS on that, but it's not worth arguing over as there is always some way to make that claim (reducing quality settings, engaging DLSS scaling, accepting very low FPS, etc). People willing to go down that route don't need 5090s either.

The only Pimax headset I've ever had is the OG Crystal. I also have an OG Vive, Index, and Vive Pro 2 and I can definitively say that in comparison with those headsets, the Crystal is just as good with respect to distortion, and that I've never had an issue with that. Pimax DOES tend to have teething issues with things like this though, especially in the early stages, but I just wait until the software stablizes and reviews become favorable; and then buy with the full intention of testing it for a week and returning it if it doesn't pass my inspection. Oh, and I should remark that this isn't my method of purchase for just Pimax, it is the method I apply to the purchase of all my headsets, and pretty much any other hobby item I buy from anyone. Of course, if you never buy from Pimax again, I guess that at least guarantees that you will have a good experience with another vendor, so I suppose that's a solution too.
