The Peyton Randolph House in Colonial Williamsburg is one of the city's oldest structures still standing from the early 18th century. It was home to an often-forgotten, yet extremely prominent, founding father who lived at the house from childhood until his death, less than a year prior to the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
An important figure in forging the framework for our country's independence, his resume and political career was extensive and an essential part of birthing our nation's freedoms and liberties.
An exploration of both the interior rooms and the exterior outbuildings, this documentary is a complete tour of Peyton Randolph's entire home found in Colonial Williamsburg.
A story that delves into just some of the history surrounding this remarkable 18th-century resident of Williamsburg. A history that includes being nominated President of the First and Second Continental Congress.
The documentary vividly reveals every room in his house and every outbuilding in the backyard available to the public today for touring.
This includes:
The Servants' Quarters, Laundry, Kitchen, Covered Way, Mrs. Randolph's Closet, Parlor, West Passage, Library, Peyton's Childhood Bedroom, Upstairs Parlor, Oakbed Chamber, Center Passage, Bed Chamber Closet, The Randolph's Bed Chamber, Middle Landing, Staircase, Front Entryway, Dining Room, Lumberhouse, Dairy, Smokehouse, Big Storehouse, Grainery, Little Storehouse, Chicken Coop, Vegetable Garden, and the home's Well.
This comprehensive narrated home tour sheds light on some of the original components found in rooms and details interesting stories of the distinguished guests who once stayed at the Peyton Randolph House.
It's also a close-up look at the places where 27 enslaved servants of the household carried out a multitude of grueling tasks and manual labor to meet the ever-abundant demands of the home and the Randolph's personal lives.

Beautiful home. One can only imagine the time, work and dedication required to keep it up to par. I enjoy viewing all the little outbuildings. Thank you for this.

Another fantastic video from this channel. Excellent videography and narration, as always. I have a question. Do you know if the dinnerware in the dining room happens to be original? I am always fascinated by glassware and household goods and furnishings of our past. Thank you for all the work you put into bringing us such amazing shows. Always much appreciated. I hope both you and Sarah had a wonderful Easter. God bless! He is risen!

Thank you Cathy! Each room’s furnishing were mostly based on the probate inventory logs thought to have been associated with the room. Im not certain if the dinnerware was all original but do believe some items found in various rooms were original and other items from the listed inventory logs were taken from other historical homes from that era to closely match what was listed. Hope it’s been a wonderful Easter day for you and your family!

Excellent video! I was wondering, is the outside of the house with literally everything being painted red historically original?

Hi Carolyn! Actually it is! They have a process called microscopic paint flecks analysis that can look at fibers of paint from the exterior portion of the house and reveal what colors were used over time. Pretty neat to know the exact colors!🎩

One of the most compelling and informative dissertations on the balance, leadership, and yet ultimate sacrifice of persons, all contributing to the ultimate Constitution of the United States. Sad is it, that those poor human beings had no idea as to how much they contributed to an emancipation of an inherited wicked system, for as to at least enabling others to eradicate the system of their existence.

Another great video. Something that is often overlooked or not done right is the background music but you nailed it! Question for you: do you have to get permission from CW to linger in the rooms to do your recording? Some places frown upon not keeping up with the guide. Thanks

So glad you like! Yes music is important and can be a lot if trial and error when searching for the right underscore track. Nope, As far as shots, all are part of the actual tour experience we went on and some quick cutaways as we walk through! It does help to be an editor when getting a shot in quick moving scenarios where you dont have a lot of time as a tour carries on i will say.

As a lifelong Virginia resident and frequent visitor to Williamsburg, l was surprised to see the house painted completely red. It may be historically accurate, but l think it looked much better before.

As I stood next to the Compton Oak tree looking at the Peyton Randolph house I wondered how many children thru the past 200 years have climbed and played on this tree. This particular day was rather hot and humid and the shade of the massive oak was a nice place to be. I looked over at the PR house and I was drawn to a window where I saw a young lady standing. I thought nothing about it other than she was there then she was gone. I walked over and began talking to one of the guides and told her I saw someone upstairs a few moments ago and she said it couldn’t be. That section was closed off for repairs. I later heard one of the guides saying that the PR house was one of the most haunted houses in CW. Now I don’t believe in ghosts but i sometimes wonder, what did I see in that window. At 74 years old it makes me wonder.

This is probably a stupid question, but did owners of this status not have their own horse/carriage? If they did, do you know where they kept the horse and carriage on this property?
@QuestCapsule

Hello Lisa, good question! Many of the wealthy would have had horse and carriage, others only horses. I would imagine they kept the horses / carriages in stables or larger storehouses near their homes. Thanks for your comment!🎩
