Wonderful answer to a very valid question. Mucus is produced due to weaker lungs. Yes after tracheostomy coughing increases as the airway now is through trach tube and is smaller. Tracheostomy tube gives us access to remove phelgm immediately so that coughing will stop immediately

Also if trach secretion is transparent or lil translucent also fine. No need of antibiotics. We need to be alert and consult doctor when mucus is dark yellow, green or red, or patient is having fever.

Hello. No, I do no cough up blood. Coughing up blood is not normal and should be evaluated by a medical professional.

It is best to deflate the cuff when eating.

When you lay down, are you lying flat or do you have a pillow under your head? If you are using a pillow, the pillow may be causing a curve in your neck. This may in turn might be causing the trach tube to move and rest against your trachea, which will cause you to cough. Have you tried sleeping at different angles either with using a a wedge or with using various amounts of pillows? Or have you tried sleeping completely flat on your back? Many with trach tubes find using a bed which can have the head of the bed raised and lowered to be helpful. They can get the correct position they want to sleep in without needing to use a pillow under the head.

Thank you for your question. The person will need to undergo a swallow test. If the patient passes the swallow test, he will be able to eat and drink. If the patient does not pass the swallow test, he will be advised if he can eat and drink. The person may need to use a feeding tube.

The airway can be kept moist by using various methods such as a heat and moisture exchanger (HME), a cool mist trach collar, a heated humidifier or a nebulizer.

@@LifewithaVent I just wanna ask I had tracheostomy last year and I was the best singer in my whole university but after tracheostomy I lost my voice and now it's half recover I can't sing low and high note plus voice become hoarse type and have constant mucus in my throat that every now and then I have to spit out from mouth even when I'm talking can you please tell me how can I cure my voice completely cause because my voice I'm nothing it's my everything I can't imagine life without it I have been stressed from year please help me in this case
