Well, he made an extremely backhanded comment towards our poor Germaine. She was risky to try and explain deep-seated problems with sexualisation of children and expect the audience to have a clue, but Peter seems to suggest she is taking things a step too far and he is profoundly ignorant as always... not quite unlike the Man of Today.

Peter is so smart, so right, so annoyed me back in the day but now I'm in awe of him. He's so worth listening to.....don't get peed off with his manner (my Dad did and he had no justification for it- sadly he passed away last year and I couldn't convince him how much he'd likd him) he's really a top bloke, a good egg. Hitchens was berated for his comments about rape in UK, the accusation being that it was a false equivalency due the institutional nature of the business in Libya, yet at that time hundreds of Pakistani men were involved in rape gangs all over England with the connivance of police and local governments. Once again Hitchens was ahead of the curve.

Agreed, but it's also wrong to blame it entirely on the private sector. The bubble began with the federal reserve cutting interest rates sharply and government guaranteed mortgages. It was more the US government and central banks fault but the global regulatory moral hazards encouraged the reckless behaviour in the private sector. Labour didnt help things by blowing up public spending just before the crisis but weren't the principal cause.
