Polo whether he went all the way to China himself or he obtained the information elsewhere still brought the detailed information on the culture, animals and people and we should still credit him with that.

About 50 years ago I did a directed study project on the archival accounts of the megafauna of the Tarim Basin. Polo provided information on lands & waters and management of each and of certain of the animals. He was uncannily accurate in his observations - as checked against the accounts of others who have written since. I believe he was present in the Tarim -

in chinese historical records... marco polo did reached the edge of china, but never set foot inside china, cause he met the mongols and became a servant of the mongol court outside china... the info he got was hearing stories about china from the mongols, chinese, and other merchants... the mongols may have ruled china during the yuan dynasty, but they usually stay close to the great wall... basically they dont really go inward... the 1st italian that lived and died in china was matteo ricci... he served in the court of the ming empire to do culture exchange between euro and china... his tomb is still in china...

@@yehuo2825There is no record of any westerners in China during the Yuan Dynasty - yet we know they were there because of technology transfer (like silk worms and gunpowder). As for the “Great Wall” - it didn’t exist, hence the Mongol take over of China (it fell into ruin when the mud brick construction ceased in the 7th century and the present wall was built by the Ming Dynasty stating in the 15th Century). Mateo Ricci arrived during the MING DYNASTY. Different attitude to record keeping than the illiterate Mongol rulers.

Marco polo served in the court of Kublai Khan, who was mongol princeling ruling the colonised nation of China. His writing all shows that Tibet was an distinct Independent nation. Now You know why they are trying to sow seed of doubts about Marco Polos journey to China.
@palestinev37222 ай бұрын
He visited, but everything he wrote about is from the Persian caravans and merchants whom he accompanied. The Persians traded with China for centuries, and his naming of the cities he visited were Persian, just to name one example. Accounts of the second fleet and battles were anachronistic, obviously hearsay accounts from older trade missions. Also, there were Jesuits and Christian missionaries there before him
