ALSO - At 7:53 I think those metal antennae are meant to resonate or vibrate by/with the bells, producing natural but powerful energy in these places. Kind of like a tuning fork that sustains the tones when "struck", or in this case, vibrated. This may be what powered some aerocraft.

Having been to Belgium numerous times, Liege (Lee age - kind of pronounced but probably not!) or Luik (just for confusion on the motorways), was usually our scooter rally destination, I have to say wholeheartedly agree with your assessment of this amazing and outstandingly beautiful country, unless you have the misfortune of riding on the motorway ring roads around Brussels, urgh is too easy to say, there they certainly don't live up to their past construction abilities today!

@@nillehessy 😁Yes, had the misfortune of spending some time at Liege Eurostar trian station. Now call me a modern building technique sceptic and I wouldn't disagree, but that buuilding, or should I say, a concretion of a building was, and no doubt still is, hideously grey, sterile, cold and soulless.....perhaps that's an understatement, then again perhaps not, eh?!?

13:47 is the Leuven university library, it was burned down by the Germans in ww1 and then the restoration was both funded and redesigned by American donations and an American architect (whitney warren) in a "neo-flemish renaisance architecture" style (built by flemings offcourse) the building holds plaques with the many american institutions and individuals that donated, many of which had to again be restored as part of the building was again destroyed during ww2

"why the time and care" the same can be said about putting a man on the moon or something as small as carving a little wooden statue. people feel inspired by things that are awe inducing and certainly a lot of what religion has always been is making us feel small compared to the larger whole. offcourse it was also about prestige but even that serves a purpose, competetive spirit is what makes us push to excell and i'd argue that a beautifull piece of architecture that generations of people will continue to appreciate is among the best ways to spend your time, energy and ressources
@istoppedcaring6209
@istoppedcaring6209 Ай бұрын
tthe building with the statues is from the 19th century (the austrians restored much of medieval ghent in a neo-gothic fashion) it is not religious and instead most of the statues represent major historical peoples, the statues are not plaster but limestone( probably Belgian blue limestone) and some places are left vacant for major names yet to come yet they have never really placed any new statues there since it was constructed, probably because most major names are also very controversial in their time and if you place x people will demand y, z and r are placed there as well. the giant in front of "het steen" (antwerp picture) is "de lange wapper" (toll demanding giant)
@istoppedcaring6209
@istoppedcaring6209 Ай бұрын
yeah we are the battlefield of europe, but much of what you see has been restored after calamity, ypres was wiped of the map, it was a ruine and churchill wanted to aquire it as a whole to become an open air mausoleum for those commonwealth soldiers with no known grave. (later revised to just the menin gate) but it was allmost rebuilt to be another modern atrocity until local opposition won out and the city was restored to a state close to what it had been.
