The sound of Native American instruments have always appealed to me. Thanks for giving me some insight into these instruments & their purpose. I have recently acquired a Native American flute & am learning how to play it. Not only do I like the instrument, now I have some understanding of it's history & meaning. I now see the importance of the trilogy so I will be adding a drum & rattle to the collection. Thanks.

Colonization and subjugation are not solely endemic to North America. Sadly, this has been a part of human history since the beginning, and almost all cultures have been guilty of it at one time or another, including Native American, where stronger tribes subjugated weaker ones. It is still very much alive on our beautiful planet even today. Look at Russia and Ukraine! I have been playing the Native American flute for several years now, and even though I'm not Native American, I have always played it with honor and integrity. My paternal ancient people, the Celts, were also nature loving and worshipped various gods and goddesses. However, they were taken over by Christianity, and like your sacred ancestors, they were no longer allowed to live and worship in the ways they had for thousands of years prior. I have been on a journey that started with nominal Christianity, growing up in California. I then discovered Wicca as a teenager, but didn't pursue it much. Then, I became a "born again Christian" in my twenties, and that lasted for all of seven years. I then wandered a spiritual desert for several decades, until I found Buddhism, which I've practiced for over a decade. During that time, I rediscovered Wicca, and probed it much more deeply. Along this path, I have always been impressed by the ancient wisdom you expressed in this video. I have read "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee," along with various books on Native American culture from David Treuer, including "Rez Life." What the Native people of this continent experienced at the hands of many Europeans is inexcusable. However, not all Europeans were complicit, and many fought against it; not enough, to be sure. So, I say all this because your video touched my heart. I found you from a video that KZbin suggested featuring one of your triple drone flutes. The sound was magnificent and magical. I would be deeply honored to have such a beautiful flute in my collection. I also use drums and maracas in my music making, as it really is a perfect musical triangle. Please allow me to conclude this lengthy comment by saying a deeply heart felt THANK YOU for your comment about anybody being able to play these sacred instruments, so long as they do it with respect and integrity. As a non Native person, I have always endeavored to play the Native American flute with respect towards the honorable people from whom it came. These instruments are so ancient in their origins, and as you said, they go to the heart of what it is to be not just from one specific culture, but being HUMAN. Thank you for taking the time to make and post this video. I don't know if you'll ever read my comment, but I had to say these things, as you appear to be a wise and honorable man. At 58 years young, I'm always impressed by such people. Even though it was through something as impersonal as KZbin, I'm honored to have met you. Many blessings.
