I plan on doing something like this if I get a laser cutter. Good job for someone who doesn't use a hammer and saw every day😎👍

Love the idea of the cabinet. I may have made the top out of perspex and to be able to keep an eye on it all, but that would likely be extra costs. Venting to the outside definitely helps protect indoor air quality. I'd likely over complicate it and automate the fan with an air quality sensor and all that sort of stuff lol. Thanks for showing us your ideas :)

I'm keeping my eyes open for an affordable bit of plexi or acrylic, preferably tinted.

If you want the top of the two sides a bit more sturdy, you could just add a 3/4" strip of plywood on the inside. This will also assist with your lid closing

Good idea. There's a lot of improvements this thing probably should have.

suggestion to keep your hose from drooping run fishing line inside and attach it on both ends I used wire connectors, and crimp to fishing line to wire end, and then run a screw threw the hole

Great enclosure. I'm really useless at wood work, if I tried that it would be a right mess. LOL.

If a butcher like me can pull it off, it shouldn't be out of reach for anyone.

ESP32 webcamera and some of those white LED tapes would be good. Also, does the laser controller have dry contacts that you can set to turn on the fan when a job runs?

I was thinking about an ESP32cam. I haven't investigated if the laser controller has available outputs yet. Interesting thought.

You may not be a woodworker but not many people know that you can make a plunge cut with a jigsaw. How is that food rack working as a replacement for a honeycomb mat?

The dollar store cooling rack is too small for the entire cutting area, but so far that hasn't been a major inconvenience. The only thing I had to do was make sure it was flat.

You can add a plexiglass flap door to the front with magnets and hinges

I might add a thin door to the lower edge to allow longer items to be slid in

Well, a lot more facial hair and grayer than I expected! I'm glad to see someone else with similar carpentry skills as me :-) Hasn't been any model railway stuff for a long time. Are you still modeling?

Got to protect those old lungs and extract the flumes outside, my K40 still makes the room smell a bit even with the fan blowing them down the pipe and out the window. If you put an interlock on the lid that cuts power to the laser, you can check the movement of the laser, without the risk of it firing. My K40 i have a switch in the line with the interlock, so normal i kill the laser when doing test movements. So as not to waste materials, but the interlock protects me if if forget to kill the laser and open the lid. You can't have too many locks to prevent damage to the only two eyes your ever going to get it also looks like we both go to the same barber to get our hair dyed, but i get my beard dyed to match🙂 Nice to see a bit of the person behind the voice, some say i have a great face for radio. 🙂
