I show the easiest way I know how to clean a catfish or any fish for that matter. This way can be used on almost any fish out there you so choose to want to clean without having to mess with the insides.

I haven’t been fishing for years! Even when I did, my ol dad used his old methods to clean em and it took forever- and there was so much waste! I need to clean and re-line my reels and get back at it. I got a lake and a river not too far from me that are loaded with good cats. And now I know what to do with em. Not much better than a big ol plate of fried catfish nuggets- and if you caught em yourself, it’s even better. Thanks!

I just used this method for my first caught cat fish ever. Worked perfect, however, and this goes without saying but make sure that damn knife is actually sharp or it won't matter how good the method is. I was struggling until I found my good knife and then it was straight butter from there. Best method ever friend. Thank you

You can clean ANY fish this way. The only difference in this is I use running water to wash the offal away into a bucket - keeps a clean surface to dress fish. I also use salted water to firm the flesh of the fish up before storage or freezing in vacuum bags. A tablespoon of salt per gallon of water is fine. This goes for panfish, bass, catfish, walleye, pike, just about any fish that is worth eating. Always get the fish you keep cleaned asap before the flesh starts to get very warm. Do not delay or your fish will taste muddy or worse. Catch, get home, clean and freeze if you aren't going to cook immediately!

Best catfish cleaning video on youtube. Don't know if he did or not but I like to bleed em out before hand. Just cut there gills. Seems to help with the flavor a bit just like it does with any animal. It's not necessary for catfish but IMO you can tell a difference.

This is pretty much how I’ve always filet fish. Most any kind. Only difference is I start at the tail and cut through the ribs. I then cut the rib cage out last after I’ve skinned it the same way you do. I heard of pulling the skin off with pliers but sounds like work to me. A sharp filet knife and I’m good to go.

Nice.... saw a guy on beach in Mexico clean a huge tub of surf fish .... JUST like this. He took 15 seconds each side. Blade behind the head to the spine, glide blade down the spine, flip the meat over, from the tail towards the head aaaaand done. Not guts, no scales just meat.

Only thing I do differently is if I know I’m going to keep the catfish I take a knife or my small hatchet to the fishes brain to end them quickly, make a cut like this < near the gills and hang them to bleed out. A lot less mess during the cleaning process and to me I think it makes the meat taste better when you bled them out first instead of letting the stress, adrenaline and other chemicals that get released during the catch soak in. Same principle as hunting deer, the sooner it drops and dies the better tasting the meat. Love how fast you get it done though, seems like it takes me about 5-7 minutes per side.
