Claire I love these vlogs. I am also gluten free and l have a great recipe for pastry and it rolls like a dream and you can move it easy without tearing. I will get it out and share it with you. You're doing great. Cheers from this grandma in Canada.

So here is the pastry recipe. I use cup for cup here in Canada. You use it the same as regular wheat flour. It is the loveliest pastry to roll. It's a bit crispier but especially if you cook it too long. It also gets darker faster. I tend to put tinfoil over the top crust once it's as dark as I want it. I make mine in my food processor but have made it by hand. Here goes. 3 cups GF flour ( cup for cup ) 1/2 tsp. Baking powder 3/4 cup chilled salted butter 1 cup full fat sour cream A little cold water if the mixture is too dry. Mix dry ingredients together. Cut in cold butter until crumbly. Add sour cream and mix until combined and holding together.,adding water a tbsp at a time if still crumbly. Refrigerate for an hour before rolling. Use plenty of flour for rolling. It will make the job much easier. Take it from me I have been a professional baker for 30 years. I just closed my bakery and retired. Good luck let me know how you make out.

So yummy! It's chicken for days for us this week. I'm okay with that. Cooking 10lbs of chicken and making chicken white chili, baked chicken, chicken and rice....oh the possibilities! Love those dangling baby leg while you cook 🥰

@mumthings it really is delicious, add some mango chutney into the sausage mix and it gives it a lovely sweetness but still savory food. The gyros were great! Xx

You are such a good cook, Claire, and you provide such a lot of variety for your family. That quiche rose well, and the pastry looked great. I am partial to baby legs and todzilla fingers in spinach! (I generally puree the sauce before I add the meat, if we use meat, but I know textures are important for kids to try.) We had stir fried noodles husband made and although they were too sweet, I was glad not to cook so I just said oh yes please and thank you. He tries. Have you tried red beans and rice with kielbasa? (That's his other dish, and it's quite good and super quick.) I really enjoy your videos, Claire. So glad to have found your channel. Do you have a PO box and a Patreon?

Thank you lovely 😊 I tried blending the sauce once but we just preferred it chunky. Bless, it’s tricky when you’re the main cook as on the one hand it’s good to have a break but you’re so used to making things as you prefer it. I haven’t but I will look up a recipe and have a go! I see a lot of US bloggers doing red beans and rice and I’m intrigued. I don’t have a Patreon or PO Box no, but maybe one day! My channel is so wee I’m not sure what I’d do with it to be honest 😊 xx

I do crustless quiche or frittata. Love pie crust but I find I enjoy crustless and dont miss the calories. Also trying to use my air fryer more - success with toasted ham and cheese sandwiches and frozen biscuits.

I do like a Spanish style tortilla with potatoes and eggs if I’m not feeling like making the pastry 😊 ooh, when you say biscuits in the air fryer do you mean UK style biscuits (cookies) or the US ones that people serve with gravy? I never would have thought to do biscuits in the air fryer! Xx
@wendyb8778
@wendyb8778 11 ай бұрын
Baking powder biscuits, not cookies 😉. I find it best to cook at a lower temperature, about 320 Fahrenheit for approximately 16 minutes .

Hi Claire, I can't help with the gluten-free version but I have always just pressed the normal quiche pastry into the dish like you do - as it has never occured to me to roll it, oops... (I like to use cottage-cheese in the filling instead of milk, and one third wholemeal flour for the pastry. It's the Scandinavian version. )
@mumthings
@mumthings 11 ай бұрын
Oh I like the idea of the cottage cheese in it! Glad it’s not just me that does a franken pie. Nothing wrong with doing it that way in my book! Xx

I never have soup cos i dont like it unless my gran made it so my worse meal was can tomato soup, not heinz, far easier for meal to list failed meal of which there were 6, so hoping this week goes better to plan and gonna make your campyfire stew thing with gammon hopefully. and hopefully I eat better too. .on the positive I tried a snickers bar after prob 15 years - yum and first ever jam sponge and custard, yum x2 . I'm ok tho, peanut butter and pitta survived me, haha

I was actually going to say panac for meal of the week which is basicly your corned beef hash .. now il say my mams broth she mades a huge couldron enough for everyone. Your thing about flour im the same with soil!!! Yet i have an allotment 😂 i have to wear gloves. Can you try leaving the pastry a short while like you do the pancakes ? It might help it bind but just throwing ideas.

I wish I could fit a bigger pot in that stove ☹️ ah well, it works for now! Haha! I’m with you on the touching first thing. I’m not squeamish about buts etc at all but I just don’t like the feeling of dry powdery hands… yuck. Yeah I might give that a go. GF pastry is just a pain. It’s almost worth it to buy ready made but I begrudge the cost xx

Lovely dinners Claire. How long and what temperature do you use for your air fryer chips, they looked so good. 😋 Do you par boil them?
@mumthings
@mumthings 11 ай бұрын
I don’t park boil them, that’s why I love them in the air fryer as you can skip that step! I just chop them up, pop them in a bowls to toss with vegetable oil and seasonings then straight in the air fryer at 200c for 18-20 minutes (depending on the size) and done! Thoroughly recommend them. If I’m doing roast potatoes in the air fryer I do pop them in the microwave for about 3 minutes first xx
