Thanks for the tip. I love using manual focus lenses.

Manual focus older lenses with IBIS is not unheard of. Pentax has had internal IBIS on their cameras for 12+ years and users have been able to enjoy IBIS using old m42 and k mount manual focus lenses all that time. :) I actually think Nikon should buy Pentax as their IBIS is excellent and has the added feature of astrotrace...

This all works. I have U1 set for manual focus. I was ready to sell my 200 F4 AI, but all previous methods to focus did not work, This does.

Hi, thanks for tutorial, but why on 4:48, after you focused manually focus box didn't turn green? :/
@TheProjectPhotography9 ай бұрын
It's because the lens I had was a non ais lens that doesn't have any electronic components. If you were to use an Af-d or any other lens that box should turn green.

Am correct in thinking when you zoon in 200% you no longer get the peaking?
@TheProjectPhotography2 жыл бұрын
Yeah you lose the ability to peak. But I've found that it's more accurate this way vs peaking. It's totally up to you tho

@@TheProjectPhotography im curious, so whats the aperture you set on the manual lens? I see you setup the 1.4A on the body, so thus it mean i need to set 1.4 as well on the lens itself?

Really enjoy shooting legacy glass on the Z7, but have to say I really wish Pentax had a mirrorless. All their little touches it make it even easier, particularly that every time you even *mount* an old piece of glass the camera recognizes this and prompts you to enter or confirm the focal length. This is smart - you have to do it anyway for stabilization, may as well do it straight away. Lots of little touches like that.

Thank you for the wonderful video. Quick question: how can I set Voigtlander Nokton 50mm f1.1 Leica M Mount Lens (with a M to Z adapter) on my Z 7 camera. The maximum aperture does not have a F1.1 option. Do you have any recommendation, please? Thank you.
@TheProjectPhotography3 жыл бұрын
You'd probably have to go into the set up menu and register it under the Non-CPU lens data. You can list the lens as a 50mm f1.1 and hopefully that will help. You'll still have to use the aperture ring and all that, but I think it'll allow you to show the aperture on display. Don't quote me on that though, hopefully that helps.

Nice video - thanks! One video tip... Pretend the lens (or whatever you're holding...) is a can of soda, and don't shake it a lot when displaying it. Show, don't shake. If that lens was a can of soda, it would have gone all over the place when you popped the top! LOL!!!!

Thank You! Of all of the videos I have watched your demonstration of peaking focus and zooming in function to fine tune the peaking/focus with manual lenses on the Z6 (I have the Z6 II) was the most direct, concise and understandable! I am now wondering if my extension tubes will function with my manual Nikon lenses and the F to Z adaptor?

One thing you need to take consideration is focus shift during aperture contraction. It is critical for precise focus. It appears to be in focus when live view but actual photo might be slightly out depending on your aperture settings.
@frankluo2304 жыл бұрын
I think Z6 Z7 use F5.6 for live view using Z lenses and supported CPU D, G lenses if shooting aperture is set at smaller than F5.6 But for non CPU manual focus lenses, it uses whatever aperture set by the lens. E.g take a insect macro shot.

Would be nice if AF-ON switched to zoom mode automatically when switching to manual mode instead of having to set it via the menu.

Very useful video. Thanks for sharing. I’ve just started learning to shoot with manual lens on my z50. May I know if it is important to enter the lens information before shooting? Will it affect the photo if I entered wrong data(e.g. 50mm for a 35mm lens)?

How can we quickly turn off the red peaking lines in the preview? Often they cover up my subject and make it hard for me to frame my composition. Is there any way to quickly hit a button and turn off the red lines when composing?

I actually have the same problem as you. My Zeiss zf2 35mm f2 won't show the green box when it's in focus with my z6, but will show the green box with the z50. It's weird and I'm not sure why it does that.
@Rowdyruffboy3 жыл бұрын
@@TheProjectPhotography That's extremely weird. I have the z7 and the focus indicator box just isn't popping up at all when using my Zeiss Distagon 21mm on the ftz adapter. Pretty frustrating if there's no camera support for that whatsoever. It'd be nice if it came in a firmware update. Update: My lens is a zf2 21mm f2.8. Did you enter cpu data or anything? Very curious how you're able to get the focus indicator when using it on your z50.
