The very first locomotive I got on and I can’t count how many afterwards I’ve been on, was a rock island at least a ge u25b and was stunned to learn as a 10-year-old back in 78 what is a horn lever instead of a cord never seen the horn liver never knew it was a horn lever. The engineer was the only one in the cab while the rest of the crew stopped to get a bite and groceries at the local corner store at the Crossing so he let us blow it and it sounded just like a southern Pacific P3👍😎.

Reminds me of when an NS employee saw me getting some shots of a GEVO when I was about 14 or 15 and asked if I wanted a cab tour. No horn for me unfortunately, but to this day I appreciate his risking his job just to let me have a look in the cab, horn or no horn! I'd been in a number of museum loco cabs by that time, so a tour on a Class 1 cab was far more unexpected.
