You can also look at the reticle ,see on the reticle where the poi is and dial the miles indicated right ,left ,up or down. So, if it’s 4mils high, dial down 4mils, easier that trying to hold the scope steady.

Great video, thanks! Did you test how much did the zero shift after removing and replacing the scope? I am building a .22 trainer, and would like to use the scope in my .308 for both rifles. Would that be practical?

Thanks for the video. It was very helpful. I have one question though(don't laugh too hard), once you get the barrel and the scope lined up correctly do you actually set the scope to zero some how? Or, is it just called zeroing and you have to remember what it is set at for 100 meters? I know you have to adjust the scope as you shoot to correct for wind, etc. Also, as far as I'm concerned you never have to apologize for the dog.

Alot of scopes have the ability to undo the turrets and move them around without moving the reticle. Once you have the scope zeroed, you would then undo the turrets, move it around so the zero is lined up on your mark then tighten them back down. I know not all scopes have this feature but it is pretty handy so you know that the zero point is set for your preferred reference range. Hope this helps.

Question: What to do if you do not have enough downward elevation adjustment in your turret, and the bullet is still shooting high? (Using a Vortex Viper Gen II on a Savage Axis, 20 MOA rail). Ie elevation is bottomed out and cannot dial it down enough.
@johnvaneeden1455
@johnvaneeden1455 3 жыл бұрын
He did not mention the mechanical mid position of both elevation and windage, this is the starting point actually and prevents working at extremes of any turret settings. The rest is cool, works very fast and is economical.

If you set it low at 25 yards ( low as your scope height measurement) you will be dead on when you move out to 100 yards. I use a slightly different method, I shoot once at 25 measure with my retical or measuring tape if you don't have a retical you can measure with do the math on how many clicks (4 times as many clicks as it would be at 100 yards). Then I move to 100 yards and take 1 shot then repeat the previous process to make my adjustment to put me high at 100 yards ( scope height once again). Then I go to 200 yards shoot a 3 round group measure from center of group to the center of target and fine tune the adjustment usually it's no more than 1/2 min off and take 1 shot to confirm my 200 yard zero. After that a 3 round group at 500 yards on a tall paper target measure how many inches it dropped from where you were aiming to the center of your group and that will give you you velocity for your ballistic app then dial up what your app says for 500 yards and take 1 last shot to confirm. So in 10 shots you will have zero your rifle found your correct muzzle velocity assess how well your rifle shoots with that particular ammo and tested how well your scope tracks.
@shitsngiggles8371
@shitsngiggles8371 3 жыл бұрын
@politicallyinsensitive yes you will fine tune your 200 yard zero before moving out to 500. If you fail to have a proper zero your data will be flawed. What ever ballistics app you use will ask for your zero distance and it is your job to confirm that your zero is spot on because the app assumes that it is and its calculations will be based off of that. ( important info) confirm zero, correct muzzle velocity, ballistic coefficient, and scope height from center of bore.

Help! I am confused! My gf says this is my typical state of being ;P On the turrets on the scope is says up/down and left/right, how do I translate that to the direction I want to move the reticle ? I ask because I feel like I am always doing it wrong and most of the time I am?
@IMPACTSHOOTING
@IMPACTSHOOTING 5 жыл бұрын
So here is how I got it to see what happens, lie behind rifle and hold it dead still while looking through your optic. When you dial direction up, you’ll notice the crosshair moving down. Do that and make big adjustments, then you’ll soon learn what moves where. Hope that helps

Does anyone have a set of criteria for when you set your bipod at 45 (which Piet did at first) verses 90 (which he did after getting on paper). Does the 45 help decrease felt recoil - so he used it when he needed to keep the bore perfectly still while dialing?

i usually zero my rifle for 25 m, that sets me up for very precise shots out to 1200 meters. hunting rifles ive always zeroed in at 100 m. if u are really good u only need 4 rounds to set up a rifle and sometimes even less if you windage is already ok. really dope seeing a South African precision shooting channel.
