Hi everyone,
My name is Tracy and I garden (indoors and outdoors) in zone 5, bake and cook at my home in Toronto, Canada.
You are watching a video recap of the Quick Fire Fab panicle hydrangea in 2022 season. I have two Quick Fire Fab hydrangea - one in the planter and another in the ground.
Thank you so kindly for taking some of your precious time to watch my video.
Happy gardening & see you next time.🪴💚

Tracy, your garden tour videos are inspiring to watch. It is a joy and informative as well. I like how you arrange your plants and when you present them, you provide their names. I am in zone 7a. I am into cottage garden style but I can borrow some of your ideas. Just bought one quick fire and one bobo on sale for US$15 each, a steal in our area. They are in 3-gallon pot. Since quick fire will grow to 8 feet, how many years will it take? When can one take cuttings for propagating? You said you just planted your quick fire in spring this year, they were already blooming which is amazing. Can you guess how old yours were when you bought them? Thank you for sharing your videos and your knowledge of your plants.

Thank you Dawn! The Quick Fire tree is about 6+ years old but it is still about 6 ft (with blooms). Our season is short and we get a lot of winter kill so the plants don't grow as fast as zone 7a. Many of the Bobo plants are about 4-6 years old as well and they are still about 2-3 ft tall. Many people tell me their Bobo grow to 4+ ft but mine never grow to that height. However, I do have a Lavalamp Flare that is supposed to be 2-3 ft and it grows to 4-5 ft tall after 3+ years. I cannot believe you got them for $15?! That is a steal...most hydrangeas are not selling for $40+ (2 gal)...and sometimes we get a sale of 30% (but not more than that). Happy gardening!

Thanks so much for the progression video Tracy! I put one in the ground in June, it came from a batch that was suffering from something (burnt tips/not enough water maybe). It took some time to recover and was just beginning to show the first florets when our first snow came yesterday. 😂 So nice to see the fluffy creamy blooms I can look forward to next year. Happy fall, hope it's been another abundant season! ❤️

This happened to me last year when I first took it home from the nursery. The blooms came in September and started to fade as soon as the autumn cold 🥶 temps kicked in.

Hi Tracey, love your garden! I see you use black mulch - so do I and I wanted to let you know of one they sell at Lowe’s. It reminds me of the ones you get at garden centres but it’s around 4$ a bag. It’s more fluffy than the pure wood one. The brand is called Sta-Green. I’ve used Scott’s nature scape but I feel like it’s more chunky wood pieces. This one is more milled and personally I think it looks beautiful. I just wanted to let you know that way you can try it next year if you’d like. I think the fluffy look would also be gorgeous. Xo

I agree about the Scott’s mulch - too coarse. I will be looking for the Sta-Green brand next spring. Thank you M! 🙏

hi Tracy, thanks for your video. Love you garden so much. Do you still water your garden in October and could you show us how you prepare for winter, especially for plants in pots? I live in Montreal so your videos help me a lot. Thanks 😊

I’m guessing the one in the pot was ahead of the one in the ground due to the soil temperature- it would warm up faster in a pot!

I thought about this too…but strangely enough, I have a Bobo in pot that bloomed later than the plants in ground. 😁

It looked like your hydrangeas in the pots performed better than the ones in the ground(little lime, quick fire fab), what could be the reasons? I could see in the past summer the flowers of my limelight hydrangea in the pot are more beautiful and brighter than the ones in the ground. I was not able to figure out why. The one in my pot got 5.5 hours of sun a day in the past summer, and the ones in the ground got 8 hours of sun.

First I thought the smaller soil in containers warmed up faster in spring and started to bloom earlier…but then I also had one Bobo in container that bloomed later so now I’m not sure what to think. But I also notice about the brighter and more intense colours on the panicles in pot too! Perhaps because we water them more frequently and they “feel” more change in night and day temps? That’s my guess but I’m not quite sure yet. Perhaps, we need to experiment more with this idea next season.

That's it. First 2 Hydrangeas I will be buying next year are Quick Fire Fab and Pinky Winky. They look so pretty. I went to Home Depot on Wednesday October 26, 2022 I end up bought 1one gallon Pinky Winky for $11.98 & 1 one gallon Quick Fire for $11.98. Home Depot doesn't sell Quick Fire Fab, I wonder where in my area (west coast Canada) sell it. 🤔🤔🤔🤔

Wow…$11.98 per plant???? What an amazing deal! HD near us don’t usually have hydrangeas left to put on sale…or perhaps I don’t go often enough to see them? It may take Big Box Stores a few more years to start carrying newer varieties. I remember it took them a few years after the introduction of Bobos and Little Lime to start selling them. I would say to go to a large garden nurseries and they probably will carry them.

Hi Tracy, You said you loved the red color stems on Quick Fire Fab, can you compare the stems on Quick Fire Fab and Bobo, which one has darker Red color? Thanks,
@TracysHomeGarden
@TracysHomeGarden Жыл бұрын
Hi 👋 The Quickfire Fab has more red stem colour then Bobo. If you want more red stems - Vanilla Strawberry is even more red. Happy gardening!

Nice! Mine started out great but mid summer it lost it’s leaves, leaves turn yellow and blooms turned brown. It was not color that i expected. Disappointment for me.

Early blooming hydrangeas not do well in warmer climate as their panicles tend to burn easily during hot midsummer heat. Have your thought about moving it to a partial sun area to delay the blooming time and get them to stay fresh longer?

Can you help me? What type of fertilizer for hydrangea?

If you have to use fertilizer, a rose fertilizer would be best for them.
