Dijana and I continue our experiment of attempting to recreate an authentic exchange between a believing Jehovah's Witness and an apostate with a series of quick-fire apologetics for which I've received no prior notice.

Not relevant to the topic at hand but I am just amazed everytime at how beautiful the two of you look together. It can't be easy to meet in a religion and leave together, going through so many changes as a couple and as an individual. I applaud the both of you on the communication skills and patience something like that requires. Also you have a wonderful family and the sweetest daughters, I send my love to all of you.

Dijana could have been playing the part of a Mormon apologist and not changed a single word. As Lloyd pointed out one of the biggest flaws in most apologetics is the fact that they have to shift the goal posts until they can apply to any religion or conspiracy.

If, as Tony Morris says, it is an imperfect organization, then the GB has absolutely no right to tell their followers to obey them 'even if it doesn't make sense'. It is not reasonable to demand blind obedience while at the same time admitting imperfection.

I’ve alluded to it before, but I find the most difficult part of speaking to current witnesses to be that 99% of their answers are variants of burying their head into the sand. Much like their own approach to preaching work, you can only change the mind of someone who’s “heart” is open to change.

In the Catholic church, we used to say "the church is like a mother to me, she might have made mistakes, but she's still my mother". It's a wonderful way to avoid accountability for any of the culprits. Also, it forgets the "you will know them by their fruits" thing.

@Rachel However, in most of the developed world, if you ask a random person. ‘If there is an unexpected knock at your front door , who do you immediately imagine it might be ?’ The answer is usually Jehovah Witnesses. Good to hear about the other groups doing it too though.
@visearms5774

@@paulbinns9375 I don't actually agree with that statement. Do you actually have a study that you did to determine that, or are you just relating some sort of anecdote? Have you made notes of every time someone knocked on your door keeping track of who it was? And even if it were true it would just be a random factoid that wouldn't mean anything. How popular a belief is or how frequently someone knocks on your door to share that belief has absolutely nothing to do with it being true or not.

Here’s a legitimate question I once asked of a JW: If your religion really is the “truth”… why did it only surface at the end of the 19th century, and in Pittsburg of all places? Why did Jehovah wait nearly two full millennia to reveal himself and his true light, all the while allowing tens of thousands of different denominations of Christianity to falsely stand and spread untruths around the world? If the Jehovah’s Witness religion really is the word of the one true god, not only should it be the oldest form of Christianity… it should be the oldest religion on Earth. But it’s neither, and it’s one of the newest branches of Christianity practiced today. The reply I got was interesting (and historically hilarious) but I’d love to hear how you come at it.
@MJBsays

That was fun! Always lovely to see Dijana too. The argument of the perfect org run by imperfect people always made me laugh even when I was a JW. Even in blatantly imperfect, secular organisations there is better transparency and accountability, so they're telling us that 'god's one true organisation' can't be at the very least as transparent and accountable as a secular one? The Moses example was great, and in fact there are more examples in the old testament of people who were used by God and when they messed up they were held accountable. I think bringing 2-3 examples, one after the next, would drive the point more effectively as it is hard to argue the pattern. In the old testament stories, those people didn't get away with whatever they did, they faced consequences. Heck, the whole history of the nation of Israel is one example after the next of being held accountable for their actions, so how come the tune has changed with this organisation? I thought he was a god of justice and truth 🤔

Lloyd, you are right! JW's are not preaching everywhere around the world to all nations and tongues. There are numerous indigenous people who are protected by national law, where no modern human society’s is allowed to approach them. The case of that Christian fundamentalist preacher who got killed on that island in the Indian Ocean, a couple of years ago, caused me to do research. JW’s will never be able to preach to them or even to erect a KDH there with Internationals. ;-) Bible scripture Matth. 24:14 “And this good news of the Kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come” is disproved

How come smoking a cigarette is a disfellowshipping offence for the rank and file members, but the whole ARC mess can be dismissed with the argument of the leadership simply being a group of "imperfect people"? If appealing to imperfection is a valid defense for getting caught for protecting child molesters, why doesn't the same defense apply when the rank and file members get caught for lesser sins/crimes? Bonus question: What would the Governing Body have to do for you to think they've crossed the line? Is there a line they can cross?

i’m a 17 year old jw, when i was younger i would always ask my mom why Jehovah let’s do many bad things happen, and she would always say that he has to prove to the angels and humans that satan isn’t capable of ruling this system

Conner, that stupid response takes the cake. Will you alloww bad things to happen to your children simply because you want to prove something to your exwife? I am sure not. They always make god look like an evil fool who does not know what he is doing.

well, about the punishment from the elders predicting stuff. of course, the punishment should be shunning. the entire population of JWs should shun the offers.. and of course that is the governing body.

My mom said, well where else are you going to go? Become an atheist? That’s where I am. But I just didn’t tell her that. She was pushing to know what my hang up was, I said it was how child abuse reporting has been directed. I told her people have been disfellowshipped for reporting it to the police. She said she didn’t believe that. I said, it doesn’t matter that you don’t believe that because it has happened. I’m sure the people it has happened to, believe it. But you can’t even read anything to find out if that is true. I asked if something happened to my daughter and she came to me about it. What is the 1st thing I should do. She said she didn’t know. I say why wouldn’t I take her to the hospital immediately and call the police? Why is that not stated in the watchtower? If it is, show me. Show me any direction from the gb on this topic and I will read it all.

These are fun, if only current witnesses would do this with former members it'd be good for everyone. I'd like to see a bit more of a dig-down on the subject of god knowing peoples hearts and where faith and loyalty come from if they're not inspired by evidence, and if they are - what is that evidence.

There's always the old fallback when the JW knows you're right: "I'm not here to debate with you." It's hilarious. They say it so often!

"This is the best imperfect organization on earth" - Couldnt this argument be used by any organization on the planet today? Do you honestly think that the Mormon Church will point to the JW's and say, "you know, if you are looking for the best imperfect organization on earth, you need to go to them." Of course not, they would and likely have used the exact same logic pointing to their own organization as the best.

jehovah couldn't even write a coherent bible, and he made everybody, so he already knows what's every bodies heart: life is not test; it's solely for gods amusement.

I would say 'How could you even tell where the imperfect people end and the perfect organization begins? There's no way of telling that the organization is perfect, when there's no actual example of perfection that you could point to' (that couldn't easily be debunked).

Question for Dianna to ask: "when people pray for god to reveal himself and then the Jehovah's witnesses knock on the door later that day, this proves that Jehovah is guiding us. Also when a brother or sister can't afford their rent for the month, but then they get an envelope through the door with just the right amount of money that they need, this can't be a coincidence, it has to be that Jehovah is using the brothers and sisters."

I dont remember this being covered in the two apologetics episodes so far but I have gotten this one from my wife and my PIMI father recently. "I serve god, not men" or "I follow what the bible says, not men."

Dear John Michael, As far as I know only Christians utter the name Jehova. I believe that Jews refrain from uttering the name of God.
