I have the axle on my recently acquired t-bird. After watching a few of these, I'll he taking her to a local shop to have them suck the fluid out. Then driven it for a few hundred miles, then repeat. If there's not any unusual amounts of metal or contamination, I'm not going this deep. I'll save that for when I need to do rear brakes.

Well, if you're going to suck it out, you could do that at home really easily. :)

Those little brass washers stick to the threaded studs and make it hard to break loose. I try to take as many off to make it easier to come out.The 9 in. I am putting in my Square Body is going to have a drain plug in it to save all this trouble.

Drain plug would be the ideal solution!

Next time put jack under front of chunk and lift slightly that will break the seal rather than pounding putty knives and screwdrivers into gasket surface.

Good idea!

Great vid. Liked and Subscribed. This gave me the courage to order parts and change my 3rd member out of my 79 Bronco. Wondering about how much oil did it take to fill? Or how would you know its enough fluid in there?

That's awesome to hear. There is a level hole on the back side. Fill it until it comes out! You can look up your specific axle version but it looks like you'll want to buy about 3 quarts.

Wouldnt pounding stuff in there ruin the machined surfaces?
@SealedBeamRallyTeam2 жыл бұрын
Not the ideal technique! Another commenter suggested lifting the third member with a floor jack to break the seal. I'd try that next time!
