Quick Guide on Replacing air filters on Africa Twin

In this video, we replace the air filters on a 2019 Honda Africa Twin.
There are two air filters in total, tools required is a Philips head screwdriver, allen wrenches and a scribe/ oring pick for the rivets.

Hey you've got the same crash bars as me! Mine popped a weld on the clamp to the lower bars around 60k, had a welder weld it back up, no problems since and they have taken an absolute BEATING! LOVE THE COLORS OF YOUR BIKE!

@@atombawm It sure did help, I bought a 2019 AT with 5,900 miles on it a year ago and I’m getting ready to change the air filters now. There are varied opinions regarding the difficulty of the task but watching your video proved that it’s quite manageable. Thanks again and safe riding

Hiflo is just the brand name, i cant attest to a change in sound or performance in comparison to oem filters. But ill listen in more closely tomorrow to see if i notice anything different.

Great tutorial ! I had to my wife this video when she asked “why does it take you so long to change your air filters “🤣! She has a 500x and it’s just a simple filter cartridge under the seat. Also - in reference to the other comment about whether these filters produce any sound. My oiled Twin Air elements definitely gave the intake a noticeable growl. Beautiful bike. I have a ‘17 in red

Someone on the forums mentioned a mod to the inlet manifold for the airbox, gained some power and the intake noise got noticeably louder. I'm trying this mod next week, will update

Great video - This is the most complicated air filter replacement I have ever seen. Almost took half of the motorcycle apart. Honda's design is not good

Lol yeah, its definitely buried in there by comparison. Engineers at honda stay up every night looking for ways to make the home mechanic suffer.

Try the KTM 1190 or the Ducati Desert X...have to remove the fuel tank.

The austrians also like tossing in some torx drive fasteners just to keep things interesting lol.

Ducatis are much worse as @viralshedding mentioned. Granted, they can't feasibly put it under the seat as the upright rear cylinder would be in the way. Honda could have, but didn't. 😆

@@atombawm BMW too! Hell, some of their bikes now require a special proprietary wrench to *add engine oil*. Every bike I've ever owned requires...fingers.

I typically changed them every other oil change unless i rode in a very dusty environment then id change them after the trip. It varied.

Wait wait I have a 2019 it has more fasteners then this. What gives? I see ar least 3 bolt on the top part by windshield?

Im not sure if theres a difference between the dct, manual and adv. sport models but for the 2019 dct the only screws to remove one side fairing are shown in the beginning of the video. (1 by dash, 1 on top and 1 on bottom)

Whole motorcycle is poorly designed. Not operator friendly. I have traveled 140 days on mine and do very little field maintenance because of cosmetic BS. I don't like tearing down a bike losing small parts while afield when a little foresight may have made a simple task ... SIMPLE.....

Agreed, Like most machines these days theres been cosmetic facelifts and covers to make them appeal to the end users. Not many people buy a AT then use it to its max capability but making preps and putting it on a diet beforehand helps. Like taking a mx bike to the dunes, gotta mod it or its going to suck sand and chew up chains & bearings. Someday i do hope to see a new bike thats field ready right out of the box.

If what is holding you back from doing such a simple job is losing 3 clips, perhaps the problem is not the poorly designed bike, but the motorcyclist with poor skills and dexterity for mechanical work. At this point it would be better to go to a workshop and have the work done by someone who is capable, rather than complain about an operation that on average is done once a year.

Lol shots fired... im sure all of us can agree that theres pros and cons to all the different makes and models out there. when it comes to maintenance, the AT is undoubtably on the podium for being one of the best in its class for whats required in maintenence intervals per milage. The worst being Aprilia SXV....that thing is needy.
