Everything you need to know about Olympic Jumping & Eventing.
Jumping sees riders and horses complete a course of 10-13 obstacles as quickly as possible without committing faults.
Considered the ‘equestrian triathlon’, Eventing combines Dressage, Jumping and Cross Country. Riders compete on the same horse in all three disciplines.

The combination gets the medal. So the horse and rider pair get the medal together. The horse get treats and love from their riders too!

I think the horses deserve the medals more than the riders

A horse would be so much happier with the love it gets from the rider, they don't do it for the medals but for their riders.😊

I really wonder how they managed to make everything work in Melbourne where the athletes must actually compete in Sweden.

The cross-country element, especially, is sick. Some of the horses suffer terrible injuries because of fear of the obstacles. Gross.

that happens in every sport. have you not seen broken shins in sprinters? yeah. and these horses are VERY well looked after.

LittleMissMorgan I couldn't give a monkey's whether they're well looked after or not. That's not the point: I've seen pictures where the horses' front legs are hard up against the fence and their backs/hind legs are way up in the air. No doubt they'll return to Earth on their backs or sides, painfully, and not at all naturally - on their feet (toes, technically). It's *gross*.

LittleMissMorgan Are you talking about human sprinters or horses? If humans, we are able to choose whether we do it or not. Big, and simple, difference.

They are well protected, they were a sort of boot around their leg (I'm from Belgium, here it's called getten) and the white stuff helps them slide over the jumps, they are taught not to jump to high, because they would lose to much energy that way.

Sport for achievement is invented by / and for people. There are no horses around in the stands cheering, enjoying and celebrating medalists and horses do not having all same recognition and reward as rider. With athleticism I understand performance of human alone, without using other species of fauna. Same about dogs or any other animals. Some made this part of household, culture, but again. It has no relation with what exact person decided to achieve or achieved. Sport, and other events with achievements should be only human related - animals are slaves there anyway. Even when used for drug detection or rescue they are slaves, but wait - I can understand using them while we are not invented something better to replace. We are on a way, and then we can finally let free our slave-friday-friends, as we freed horses from transportation, military and farming.

Sport is invented by human. On seats are only human. So roles are clear. You can full anyone who does not know other options for life. It's like church is only options for ignorant people living distant and raised by traditions. It's FOOLING! I bet some cows like to be on meadow, be milked, washed, fed, etc. but in the end they will be on plate by small peaces without knowing about its purpose and destiny.

Poor Horses ):

Why? I think they are lucky that they get a workout like this unlike many of the horses, which are owned by families, which barely get any real physical exercise or challenges and have to bear with annoying kids around them. Horses are much stronger than humans, if they don't want to jump they don't do it.

Not to mention these horses are more pampered than most humans would ever have the chance to be. They get the best of everything, including massages and grooming and feed. And hey, the well-being and happiness of these horses are always at the forefront, and the rules and guidelines to maintain that get more rigorous every year. We all care for these amazing and gentle animals.
