Quick n' Dirty: Restoring a backup in VDJ8.4/2020

Oh my days my hard drives been driving me mad with file errors randomly for about 6 months..I had to restore them manually on my playlists which takes forever.....but this file restore thing is the best ....it works quick....in fact I cant belive iv got it all bk thanks to you......i also switched on file protection also on Windows 11 to ensure I don't lose nothing again ....... A VERY BIG THANK YOU MAN!!!!!

The restore database backup button do not show on my virtual Dj 2020, even though i did back in the bast and i have the back up files and i also used the restore button in the past. Can you help on this issue. Thanks

Great Video! How can I jut transfer cue points and saved loops from one hard disk to another hard disk? I just copied my songs to a new hard disk, then I copied the database.xml to the new hard disk but the cue points were not created/copied to the new hard disk. Thanks in advance for your help!

I never did a backup before, yesterday after a gig (thank god) my vdj just reseted everything. And most painfull moment is that I lost all my settings, that I made through years of learning. And I wonder is there a way of getting back everything?

Hi Klaus is there anyway to change the colour of the jog wheel in Virtual to a white face like in serato. I prefer white because it allows to to see the time easier.

Yes you can either edit the default skin, or use the controller hd skin which has it as an option

I just bought a second PC that I’d like to virtually clone from my original. I have some samples and plug-ins from VDJ extensions. I also have karaoke/music on the internal hard drive but 2 tb of video on an external drive. What is the best way to get my new laptop up to speed like the old one please?

Probably to do it manually. Simply install VDJ on the new laptop. And then copy the entire /documents/virtualdj folder and subfolders from the old laptop to the new one, overwriting the default files that the fresh install just created

Is there a way to make a "mirror computer" of the main or first computer (music & software) in case this one breaks or malfunctions. I am scared to rely only on 1 computer.

Yes you can restore it on another laptop But to do laptop mirroring I find it easier to install VDJ on both laptops, prepare tracks and mainly use VDJ on one laptop, and then simply copy the whole /documents/virtualdj folder to the second laptop before gigs. This is even simpler if you keep all the music on an external drive, so that it will "be in the same place" if you switch laptops

Hey buddy how do you reinstall VDJ without losing all the playlist is created. It seems my VDJ is using a lot of my computer memory, which leads to glitching. I spoke with Apple and they ran some test and everything seems good on their end. When I run VDJ it uses over 6gb of memory. However when I run Serato it only uses 2. 70gb of memory. I also have 2 Macs and on my 2017 MacBook Pro VDJ only uses 1.40db of memory. Both Macs are the same specs except for the year. The main one is 2018 and the backup is 2017. I am thinking I may need to reinstall VDJ, which I do not want to do Because I have it setup the way I like it in terms of my playlist. Do you have any suggestions. Thanks

You decide that when you uninstall. Just say no to remove all files But I doubt reinstalling will help. Apple support always says that there are no problens on their end. If you decide a re-install you should also upgrade to latest build. If not you will simply replace the VDJ executable file with the exact same file after the re-install

hey bro thanks but for my case, I didn't back up database and it got deleted accidentally when I was installing virtual DJ, so how can I get another database?

If no database exists, a new empty database is created automatically when you open VDJ

@djsolista256 That sounds like a different problem altogether. Changes to the mappings aren't stored in the database. Could it be a more general file rights problem with the VDJ home folder?

@@klausmogensen8691 I can't tell because when assign specific keys to perform specific actions, it accepts but after starting the Vdj the next time, it opens and shows "no database found" then goes back to default mapping

@djsolista256 That sounds like it's not allowed to save the files. I would look into the file rights in your OS
