I'd like to know more on thoughts about Tuff bunks.

Thanks for this review of carpeting bunks. At first I thought well that's a no brainer, but I picked up pointer tips from these guys. Especially the gluing first. Thanks! So when do you pick up your Bass Cat?

Ken, why didn't they bring the carpet together or overlap it on the bottom where the wood would not be exposed?
@kellycarr47013 жыл бұрын
So the water can drain out easier. You should never completely wrap the bunk with the carpet. I leave at least a 1 inch gap.
@alanaho49153 жыл бұрын
@@kellycarr4701 I'm reading two trains of thought on this. My current trailer bunks are totally wrapped and seem to drain and dry (could be the hot Arizona air). Others promote using a quality marine carpet capable of draining, etc. A couple have promoted leaving a 1 to 2 inch gap. I'm also reading different thoughts on using glue, if not just to make it tacky to hold it in place while wrapping. To each his own and experience I guess.
@KenSmithFishing3 жыл бұрын
Alan I think you are right about the dry air out there and @kellycarr was spot on!
@alanaho49153 жыл бұрын
@@KenSmithFishing so the other day your video with Bass Cat they double wrap their trailer bunks, and I understand the reasoning they used regarding slipping, etc. I'm thinking, short of using good quality carpet, placing an extra layer, tacked with glue, on the top then wrap the bunk with a full piece leaving a 1 inch gap at bottom. I know I'm going to have to do this sooner than later.

which carpet to use? Don't think you covered that. Thanks.

Ken, for props...a 3 blade 25 pitch Tempest on my 20 ft nitro worked pretty good but I tried out a 3 blade 25 pitch Fury and lost ~8 mph top end and the boat won't get "up and out of" the water as much. Is the Tempest that much better at bow lift? I noticed a significant difference in weight between the two, the Fury is much lighter, wouldn't this weight loss help make more power and would going up to a 26 pitch Fury make a difference with bow lift?
@KenSmithFishing3 жыл бұрын
JD I don't think the weight makes that big a difference, but yes apparently the Tempest has of the best bow lifts in the Mercury line-up, which is helpful in heavier rigs like Nitros and Rangers
@j.d.stauffer75103 жыл бұрын
Didn't mention it, but they did it...leaving that exposed 1" gap of wood on the underside allows the wood to drain after getting wet. It helps stop the wood from rotting out over time. Also, if replacing entire bunks only used treated wood! Untreated won't last a year, ask Nitro owners!

Great add JD, thanks!

Ken if you understand props the way ur talking about people should be able to figure it out themselves instead of just asking which prop is best for my boat. So many questions pop up on FB where folks ask really easy questions, easy to research themselves to find the answers!!

@@KenSmithFishing I just finished 3 out of 4 of the bunks on my BCB Pantera 2 and I can tell you the 24oz, with the one top layer glued down first is really nice. However, even with brand new blades, my lines don't look as sharp as the lines on these bunks.
