So as someone that works in the surveillance industry I have a few questions. Since you are doing an in-depth. POS integration either through direct serial connection or TCP/IP.? Is their camera support only through ONVIF or does it support some of the proprietary cameras.? What is their support for specialty cameras like license plate cameras. Does it support entry control, such as tracking who or what enters and exists. SNMP support? Does it support exporting information like license plate logs to other solutions. Is their an option for multiple user accounts to control access for remote viewing. BTW thank you sir for your videos. I love throwing them on while I am cooking or relaxing. You are very informative and even if I think I know everything you are talking about, it's good to have a refresher and sometimes I catch something I didn't realize. Or learn about something completely new.

Can you show how to get Hikvision cameras motion detection to work on Synology in that future video. I always have to use synology to detect motion instead of camera
@johndupont14132 жыл бұрын
That’s because it’s using a generic Onvif driver for the HikVision camera. Milestone has the same problem and I encounter it all the time especially with HikVision. I don’t have the problem that often with ACTi, Axis or Vivotek.

I have ID51 model Annke cameras. As far i know Annke is the cheaper version of Hilvision. I choose on the settings of Synology. Use camera settings and synology is using camera configures motion detection.
@fretbuzzly2 ай бұрын
I know this is old by now, but you just configure everything in the camera itself. Hikvision actually has very good detection capabilities in the camera, no need to rely on an NVR for this work. Then in SS you just select to let the camera do the work.

I'm planning a project to install a surveillance system for a large company, probably with 200 to 300 cameras. I'm really not sure what systems are there? Do you recommend going all in with one brand? Like hikevision or something similar ? Or go with synology that can support wide range of cameras? Features like Ai and movement detection is important to me.

Looking forward to the detailed video on the SSS v.9 btw: did they remove the virtual pan/zoom controls that used to be on the left panel of what is called today "Monitor Center" ? (cant seem to find to pan PTZ cams and not use mouse cursor).

Besides Surveillance station, are there any other recording softwares that I can install on Synology ?
@ChristianLawrence Жыл бұрын
thanks, what switch for poe would you recommend. Thinking of swapping my dedicated ip camera box back to synology. camera not working when plugged into the router directly.

How does Zoneminder compare to Synology Surveillance Station in terms of features and camera support? Wondering if the synology bc500 cameras could be used with Zoneminder?
@LAWRENCESYSTEMS Жыл бұрын
Last I checked it would not even be considered close to comparing in features or usability.

Blue Iris vs Surveillance Station Which would you recommend?

I have been using Surveillance Station for many years to capture Shots of wildlife at night. My problem with the new version is that I cannot find out how to stop the camera recording at particular times. Not only do I not want to look through dozens of daytime recordings there is a park nearby and I do not want to record children coming and going to that park fo obvious reasons. Before I could simply go into the edit function and choose for the recording to be set to motion detection at night and not on during the day. Now it appears to not offer that function, is there a way around this? I have been asked to take part in a university study for night wildlife and I am not the only one with this problem, can anyone help?

Every synology HDD I have is a shucked drive 1: Seagate ST14000NE0008 2: WD WDC100 3: Seagate ST4000 4: HGST HGN7260 these are all drives that arent rated for Surveillance. But Ive been using all these for years in my Synology. Would you recommend replacing one of these with a surveillance drive and using that drive solely for Surveillance Package?

You cannot view recordings from all servers at once in CMS mode, by default all recordings shown only from Local Host which is big problem

I'm super interested in Pool Safety Cameras and Computer-Aided Drowning Detection. Is that something that can be set up with Synology? Is there any way to pair some technology with Synology? I know that's far more home use and not commercial. Can you or someone point me to a discussion on your forum or a forum to discuss. I got a threen-ager that we watch like a hawk, but she can open doors now and I'm sure that locks are not that far behind. That and toddlers are just criminal masterminds; no goodie they can't pilfer, no cage that can hold them =p

Surveillance Station can't find cameras on my network, they used to work fine for over 2 years. Now can't find the cameras even though the cameras are on the network, please help?
@JonathanSwiftUK2 жыл бұрын
For business it'll probably be fine, but for home use I would not use Synology. I have an old DS214, I can't see anything reasonably priced, for home use, with 2.5g networking, and I won't buy a NAS without this. Licence costs are vey high for home users, another 4 pack is 145GBP. I'm getting rid of my Synology shortly and building a Windows NAS, or perhaps Proxmox or CoreNAS. Is there an opensource camera server? Does that have licence costs for cameras?
@joshuamason25942 жыл бұрын
Do you sell licences? I'd much rather buy from you and support you than a random company.

SS9 is terrible ! Hard find recorded files. Used to be able to click on a calendar date and move the slider to find a time of interest. Now you have to hunt through a file list. SS9 is a DOWNGRADE ! Do not upgrade to this garbage !

I was going to switch over from what I'm currently using as I have had a Synology NAS for a few years but I never used SS as I currently use another brand of surveillance software. However I immediately was foiled on the first steps. I have four cameras with three in the "blessed" list and one Chinese knockoff brand. Out of the supported list cameras, none were detected and none could be manually added. All are pingable/reachable from from the NAS, all are firewall free. Nothing is being blocked. The knockoff brand was detected but the software cannot authenticate to it. And "no" I don't have too many cameras "ps -ef | grep sscamerad -c 1" My coworker is a SS fanboy and his setup was really impressive, until SS updated and he has been pulling his hair out to try and get back up and running. He's using Hikvision only. It's been a week and he is still not back up using SS. The only support is community based, so he's basically on his own. He has his own scripts in the meantime to notify him on alerts until he gets this fixed or moves on to different software I'm writing this as I am frustrated and somewhat angry. This software does not support onviv in the concept the industry standard expects.
