The gift bags are a great idea! For those big seed heads like Sweet Joe-Pye, I have used one of those mesh lingerie washing zipper bags.

This is a great idea! If I had a green thumb at all, I would use this technique.😂

I use these same types of bags...the only difference is that I figured out that turning the bag inside out makes it easier for me to get the seeds out! They don't get caught in the hem or the seams. It's a bit more difficult to tie the bag because the strings are inside, but I'm happy with that trade-off. Thanks for the video!

Great idea about the seed bagging! I so know what you mean by the heat and humidity and I'm just like you, I melt in it so the only thing I do at that time is water in the morning and that's pretty much it. I do have plants for pollinators and have so many bumblebees it's unreal but I'm becoming interested in medicinal plants since I live in a wooded area like you. Plants like Comfrey, Calendula Officianalis etc. I found a YT video Strictly Medicinal Seeds and he has quite the collection. Anyway, thank you again for sharing your home and garden with us.

Hi Adrian! oohh.h.....I need to look up their YT! If I am not mistaken that's where I purchased my bare root Rosa Virginiana. I am trying to get more into medicinal gardening as well. If you find any stand out videos, let me know! Thank you for stopping in!

I've been trying to remove an invasion of volunteer trees this summer since we stopped mowing our property. But we are having a hot humid summer here too. So I too am waiting for the cooler days of mid September to resume weeding the juniper, elm, and ash saplings in our grass.

It gets so bad (hot and humid) in VA. I do most of my work in the fall, winter and spring!

@@ninetypercentnative I got most of the small saplings pulled in October. The soil was nice & soft from ample rain. I did have to just cut a few of the bigger saplings off at ground level. I will deal with them next season! They're buckthorns so they will sprout right back up.

Please share your winter sowing techniques. I hope to start this year! But have zero experience!

Hi Tiffany! I have some videos in the library where I sow in the winter (not the winter sowing technique). If you have native seeds, sow them in a pot or flat according to the directions, put them outside where they will get rain and snow, maybe cover with some mesh to keep the wildlife out and they will sprout in the Spring. Pay attention to the length of time the native seeds need cold stratification to plan out if you have time to start now, or if you will need to do a little artificial stratification first (I have videos about this too). Feel free to email me with any questions!

Do you have any tips for separating seeds from chaff? I have some plants with tiny, tiny seeds and a lot of chaff when I collect them, Penstemons and Phacelias especially and I end up just having to store them as a mixture of seeds and chaff because I can never get them separated properly. Baggies are a good idea! I collect a lot of california poppy seeds and those heads will actually explode when you touch them! -- I have to have ninja reflexes 😂😂😂

Last year I stored mine in paper lunch bags. I'd shake them once a week hoping the seeds would fall to the bottom. It "mostly" worked in time for winter jug sowing.

There are a couple tips I have seen. You can put the seeds in a bowl and lightly blow the chaff because the seeds are heavier the chaff blows away and the seeds stay. I do this sometimes. With very small seeds, I will use wire mesh. For bogger seeds I just pick them out. Sometime when I'm lazy I just sow chaff and all!
