That was great seeing how you captured the grass with just a few strokes. It takes a nimble brain to be able to switch back and forth between talking/teaching and seeing/painting! Thank you so much, Dianne.

Since grass is an upright object, on scale of 1-9 value scale, how dark would you paint it? Sometimes the blades curl flatly and get smashed by sunlight but wouldn't that tear apart your value zone? Generally you want to keep your grass darker, right?
@IntheStudioArtInstruction2 жыл бұрын
Tyler, how dark or light you would make an area depends upon what the light source is doing.
@tylersimpson55412 жыл бұрын
@@IntheStudioArtInstruction what about the theory of angles for landscape painting? Grass being upright would mean it shouldn’t go too light right? Even under a hard direct sunlight? That’s where I get caught up in my understanding

Hi Dianne, Can you please state what brand and colors you use, the size and type of brush(es), and the medium you applied to the canvas before you start painting?
@IntheStudioArtInstruction5 жыл бұрын
Erin, in Quick Tip 215, I explain my palette. For most of these Quick Tips when working with oils, I'm using a Rosemary Series 274 #6 or #8 flat brush. Usually, I don't use any medium during the painting process. Before beginning, I will slightly spritz the dry canvas with a mixture of Gamsol/Poppy Oil, then wipe it down. This is just to create a very slightly damp surface to enable the paint to go onto the canvas more smoothly.

May I just ask... Does that concept of the farther grass is, the lighter it is consitent? Or does it only depend on the lighting?

It depends on the lighting.

Great. So we need to be able to see in two dimension in nature. It is easy to see in a photo. But how to do in nature or still life? Is it through practice or there are any guidelines to see nature in two dimension? Thank you very much anyway Dianne for so helpful teachings.

Reza, it's all about the language you use as I point out in the beginning. Look for hue and it's variations, look for value contrast and/or gradation, look for changes in intensity. All that plus the kinds of textures, the overall shapes of images--and on and on. In other words, describe to yourself what you are seeing using the visual language - line, shape, value, textures, color (hue-value-intensity), direction, size. Tell yourself what these elements are doing. For example, value is contrasting, or value is gradating. Have you ready my book, Finding Freedom to Create? It's all there.

Hi Dianne, could you share an approach of how to study human anatomy? It's a difficult subject for me as I always draw human figure out of proportions. Fingers and Hand would be the hardest part. Do I need to memorise all the bones and how the muscles work in human body? Human poses are challenging as well. Thanks you :)

Tan Lim, human anatomy is much too complex to be explained in a short Quick Tip. I recommend you explore the KZbin channel Proko. Stan Prokopenko's specialty is human anatomy and he has dozens of videos on KZbin that will show you what you need to learn. Find them at kzbin.infovideos
