As a digital painter, I have been struggling to paint with oils (digitally in Rebelle Pro), and I have found your videos to be really enlightening. I now understand that I should work from dark to light in most cases. Thank you very much!

Great tips Diane. I use all of these. I have found that mixing on a grey palette and painting on a white canvas means I tend to mix too dark, whereas if the palette and the canvas are a similar value, I can mix values more accurately.

Hi Dianne. Could you explain how to increase a colors intensity/vibrancy? When you've talked about intensity in the past it's always about lowering it. However, I want to know how to increase it into a mixed color. I'm having a lot of trouble doing this. An example would be that I mix a colors value (say yellow ochre) that I'm happy with, which usually dulls it. So I want to keep the value but increase the colors intensity. Is there a way of judging this?
@IntheStudioArtInstruction
@IntheStudioArtInstruction Жыл бұрын
To raise the intensity, you identify the hue of the color whose intensity you want to raise, then you mix into that color one that is the same hue, but as fully saturated as available. For example, yellow ochre's hue from some manufacturers is yellow-orange leaning towards yellow. So to raise its intensity, a tube color such as cadmium yellow deep will work. Cad yellow deep's hue is yellow orange and it is a high saturation.

Hi Dianne. Thanks for another great QT. I have a question. While we are learning to paint in dark to light values, would you necessarily block in all the darks first? The ones in the chicken AND the ones in the grass and then come back and work in the lights?
@IntheStudioArtInstruction
@IntheStudioArtInstruction Жыл бұрын
Yes, absolutely, but not specifically. I block in the general areas of dark first because they are essential to the shadow pattern. It really works to forget what it is and begin the block in with the general shadow and light patterns we see.

Dear Dianne, I like your palette. Is it on the market or did you make it yourself? I use paper disposible palettes. They are usually small and Very white. /Thanks for your educational videos🌹

Hi Diane. I’m wondering if you would be open to reviewing the COLOR CUBE? I’m curious to whether you think that it’s worth the money or not. Thank you.

Susan, I'll be happy to do that. But since it will be late November before it will appear on KZbin, I can tell you that when you learn to mix according to the traditional color wheel, you don't really need to invest any more money. See my free concept lesson at the top of diannemizeacademy.com/
