So nice to see you again Dianne, i learned so much from your SNCA classes so many, many years ago. I miss you and thank you for teaching me how to paint. I passed along what i learned from you to a small group of ladies in my community, We meet weekly sometimes to do artwork or just to chat. They all found talent they didn’t know they had, thanks for the inspiration Dianne, I miss you. Carol Adkins

My, my, Carol. How good it is to hear from you. And it thrills me that you're passing along what you learned to that group, especially since it has been so enlightening for them. Keep enjoying the journey, and stay in touch. Dianne

Another great video, I love how it looks when you put two or more different color of the same value, maybe intensity, in an area like you did with the sand; as you also have pointed out in other artists’ works. Somehow it doesn’t look that great when I do it (probably always putting it on top another color and it blends) so I want to do a little practice like you suggested, just find a photo and give it a try. Thank you for the explanation and the suggestion to just try it out for fun!

Diane, I’m a wildlife artist and illustrator, but I want to start plein air painting. I feel it would really be helpful to paint habitats in plein air rather than using photo reference. I use golden open acrylics which have an extended open time. I was wondering if you could do a video on what tools, or techniques would be helpful for someone new to plein air painting. What kind of easel do you recommend? What do I do with dirty water? How do I decide visually where the “frame” is of what I’m looking at? It’s a loaded question so perhaps you won’t have time to fit it all into one quick tip. 😂 Sending love from Altoona, Pennsylvania.

Michael, for people who want to try plein air painting, I always suggest beginning in your own yard. There is an abundance of ideas about equipment and supplies, but what you use should be determined by how much hiking you want to do. We take with us the lightest weight we can manage and include whatever we might need while at the location. While I will attempt a Quick Tip addressing your questions, it will be late July or early August before it goes live on KZbin. Meanwhile, I suggest you explore James Gurney's channel because he is the most prolific plein air painter I know who shares his process. Even though he paints mostly with gouache and watercolor, much of his equipment and process also works for acrylics. Another painter who uses acrylics in plein air is Roger Bansemer. Check out Gurney at www.youtube.com/@JamesGurney/playlists and Bansemer at www.youtube.com/@Bansemer

Thank you so much! This helped and I know what to work on and think about. (I'm also a classical composer as well as artist, btw, so no confusion)😊. Thanks again and be well!

Would the color notes change or be affected by a different background music ( classical v folk) ?

Perhaps, for some painters. But visually, probably not.

Which medium is your favourite for everyday painting? Why?
@IntheStudioArtInstruction
@IntheStudioArtInstruction 29 күн бұрын
I alternate between watercolor and oils. Sometimes a subject and my mood call for one, and sometimes the other. And there are times when pastels call to me. My favorite field study medium is gouache.
