I use acrylics but also oils, so not as experienced in oils. This video answered a lot of questions I've had, and contains lots of little gems of knowledge. I appreciate this quick tip very much!

Diane, so you prime the canvas with poppy oil. Good idea.
@IntheStudioArtInstruction3 ай бұрын
I would call it prime, Susan, rather I treat it with a very thin coat of poppy oil to reduce the tension, making the brushstrokes adhere to the surface more easily.

Love your tips Diane. Question: how to get more shine on the dull wax texture?

This is a great Quick Tip, Dianne, covering all the options. Would it make sense for me to apply a thin layer of poppy oil on gauze (then wipe it off) to take away the friction, then do a preliminary drawing with a Tombow pen and then paint right on top? I haven't had a good experience by starting out with linseed oil. Also: what did you mean by saying that "it may slow down that paint down in DRAWING? a little bit? Or did you say "DRYING"? Be well and thanks loads.
@IntheStudioArtInstruction3 ай бұрын
It's best to do the preliminary drawing and the notan before wiping it down with poppy oil. The poppy oil wipedown works best just prior to beginning the painting session. Poppy oil dries much slower than linseed oil, so any time we use it, it slows the drying time.

@@IntheStudioArtInstruction I would use it only when preparing the canvas.Thanks for the clarity. You answered my question regarding the proper sequence. 😊

Hi Dianne please can you do an explanation on acrylic mediums. Would be much appreciated. Thank you.
@IntheStudioArtInstruction3 ай бұрын
Annie, I would be happy to, but since I haven't painted with acrylics for decades, I'm not well-informed on acrylic mediums. I dare not give advice on anything I don't have knowledge about.
