@@skysky9115 That’s cool. I paint oil over acrylic all the time. You just can’t paint acrylic over oil. It will crack when dry.

did you paint your animal before or after the grass? thank you that was a great demo
@PaintGoodwithChad Жыл бұрын
I painted the grass first and the animal last. It’s easier to paint the background before the foreground. However, I painted the animal and the background together, in monochromatic tones of red, as the first layer. (Under painting) I let that layer dry and then I start adding colors.

Really like your videos…great stuff! Also like your recommendations for brushes. What oil paint do you recommend? Also, what fan brushes? Thanks for all you do.
@PaintGoodwithChad3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Charles! I use Windsor and Newton level 2 oil paint. My fan brushes are all different sizes and material. I suggest buying a few different kinds and trying them out. Synthetic and natural both work a little differently. It’s a personal choice. Usually they are labeled as oil acrylic or water color brushes. I mostly use the brush that’s designed for the paint medium I use. However, a water color or acrylic brush can be used with oil paints. They are a little softer and apply the paint differently. I hope that helps.

I saw on a different comment about this video how you used an underpainting in tones of red. How did you determine that should be the color you used ? Thanks for answering if you can.
@PaintGoodwithChad7 ай бұрын
Hello! I use red because I wanted this painting to have a warm tone. The red shows through a little. It also contrasts with the blues and greens. This way, I know what’s underpainting and what the top layer is and I don’t miss a spot.

Though this is a really informative video, have you made a video showing how to paint the field of grass from the beginning ? I realize that could be a bit "monotonous," 😉 but, some of us need that extra bit of instruction. Either way, thank you for sharing this video with us. It IS really helpful. BTW, I use acrylics, so, do you have any tips for painting grasd with that kind of laint? Thanks bunches. 👍🙂
@PaintGoodwithChad7 ай бұрын
Thanks for being nice. I’ve had a lot of rude comments lately. To answer your question. I spontaneously decided to make a video while I was in the middle of working on this painting. It wasn’t planned. That’s why it started in the middle of the process. I will do a short that shows the beginning, next time I paint grass. The reason my videos are not very scripted is because I am an artist before I am a KZbinr. I don’t plan these things. I appreciate your comments. Thanks.
@PaintGoodwithChad7 ай бұрын
BTW, The process is the same with acrylics. Just use water instead of paint thinner. The paint should be runny when using the liner brush.

@@PaintGoodwithChad So THAT'S the trick - thinned out paint. TYSM for your help. 👍😉

@@chrisgriffith1573 The pallet in the video has since been retired. I buy a new one about once a year. It’s hard for me to keep them clean. Recently, I tried disposable pallet paper. I don’t like it. The algorithm has presented me with all kinds of videos about people painting oils over acrylics. Funny- its a bad idea! But here is the real kicker- the same people are commenting over and over about how great this is and seeing the same vein of videos due to the algorithm! So they are all thinking this is a great idea- when in fact, it is a very bad practice for oils!
@PaintGoodwithChad11 күн бұрын
Thanks for sharing. I didn’t know it was a bad idea. Have you ever painted oils over acrylics? What was the result that led you to this conclusion?
@chrisgriffith157311 күн бұрын
@@PaintGoodwithChad Have I ever... ? LOL- I was an illustrator for over 15 years. Start using acrylics, use oils, spray using Krylon Crystol clear, then re-apply oils, repeat as many times as you need... I have mixed media like that going back 35 years! Most of them crack within ten years, and stabilized at around 20... but they will degrade further in the future. My fine art pieces started off using gesso with acrylic underpainting, then oils over top- soon after they cured, the oil was too brittle to hold over the acrylic- a simple bump from the back of the canvas could crack the oils, and carrying a large canvas into an exhibition I did just this when my knuckles bent the canvas from the back, and the oil just literally fell off the acrylic. I immediately switched into panels and stopped using acrylics of any kind under oils. Oils need a rigid dimensionally stabile surface with an absorbent tooth, this is why gesso of the Masters was chalk and plaster (gypsum) based. My website is www.cwgriffith.com if you want to see some examples of both... there are two mixed media pieces there- (the ones with the cracking)
