In another video you said green or purple can be warm or cool depending on what they are next to so what would you write in the temperature column for those two? Also how do you judge intensity? At exactly what point does a low intensity color get to be a moderate intensity color? If there are moderate intensity colors, do you write that in the box? Do you use any information on the tube for your judgement? Am I overthinking this?

When doing this chart, you are making a different kind of judgement than when painting. We can categorize the temperature of hues according to how much red and/or yellow they contain as opposed to blue. Intensity (also called chroma) is the degree to which a hue is either neutralized or saturated by its complement. The more of its complement a hue contains, the more neutralized it is. Tube info doesn't always include this. If you go to my website and click on Free Stuff in the menu, you can download an intensity wheel that shows degrees of intensity for each of the 12 hues on the traditional color wheel. Moderate intensity is the same as moderately saturated. That's a judgment you learn to make once you learn to see the degrees of saturation/neutrality.

Thank you for the tip. I know I purchased alot of colors I did not need. I should have tried this method first.

You really need very few tubes when you learn how to mix and which tube colors give you the widest range of colors.

I like your pallet table and brush holder. can you direct me to the brand or vendor

For teaching and plein air painting, I use the Sienna Pochade box. It's the most sturdy rig I've ever owned. I invented the brush holder, but in a couple of weeks, we'll be featuring an even better brush holder invented by one of our viewers. Stay tuned.
