Wow, after taking several years of art classes, I'd never been explained perspective, and what you just taught. I had given up on painting because everything looked the same. Some teachers are in it just for the quick buck and prey on people who really want to learn. Thanks so much for this tutorial, it has given me much to think about. Blessings.

Thank you so much, Ms. Mize! Your explanation may save me a ton of time in checking out so many artists and their clouds. I have watched so many, to find that everyone's technique and idea of what a cloud should be is different. Your formula cacks up my art teacher's instruction on pencil sketching as applied to all art. I just had not gotten there yet. Thank you so much.

I watched this previously but it didn't quite "take" (I'm a beginner); but after practicing many, many clouds I can really appreciate your tips now, especially on getting the right basic color-hue (the sky) and going from there, using compliments, whites, etc., in the five steps. Thank you Dianne! Can you recommend any of your full length lessons that would help with painting clouds and seascapes? Thanks!
@IntheStudioArtInstruction2 жыл бұрын
Mona, none of the full-length lessons address techniques directly, but they are all aimed towards working the elements and principles for the most effective compositions. For seascapes and clouds, the degrees of contrast of values and the gradations of hues and their degrees of saturation are necessary. Both require managing textures. Perhaps you might find one of the lessons helpful in the Working with Values series - diannemize.com/product-category/series-eight-working-with-values/

@margiedelay17166 жыл бұрын
I have only recently become interested in painting. I have a natural aptitude for music, but NOT for art. Everything I attempt at art is a learning experience, and sometimes a major struggle. Your videos and tutorials make my struggles a lot easier. Thanks for showing as well as telling. You are an outstanding instructor.
@IntheStudioArtInstruction6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your note, Margie. There are so many similarities between painting and music. Both require first becoming familiar with the tools and finding out what they will do. Next comes finding the right skills. If something about painting pulls you towards it, learn its language (just as in music) and you will find it, too, can fall right into place.
@margiedelay17166 жыл бұрын
First, I want to thank you for taking the time to reply to my comment. After thinking about it, I have to agree with you-there is something about painting that calls to me. I've always admired the way good artists do what they do, and the great ones make it look easy. I've always wanted to go through life with the eye of an artist, noticing all the color and details and having that sharpened perception. As with music, it enhances the quality of life and makes it worth living. And it's such a personal thing; it comes from you alone, it's like self expression,freedom, and wonder all mixed together. It reminds me of when I was a kid and it makes me smile. Thanks for the en couragement and the comments. You're right about the similarities between music and art. I've never really looked at it that way. You have a true artists perception in life as well as in art. Thanks!

I really like how you explained the brush technique. Do you have any videos on your favorite brushes or what brushes/brush techniques that are essential for landscapes? I also like how you left the cloud for last. I’ve seen a lot of videos where they painted the entire sky first then painted the cloud/s over it with like 4 different shades. You painted the sky separately from the cloud. That might make it easier for me to blend.
@IntheStudioArtInstruction3 жыл бұрын
Victoria, there are no techniques unique for painting landscape. There are general ways we can learn to maneuver the brush so that we can respond to what we want to do without guessing how. Also, how an artist uses a brush is individual to the artist. I have a number of Quick Tips focused on using brushes. Go to kzbin.info and click on Videos in the menu to find the complete list.

I like the way you set up your palate. My problem is when you put out gobs of paint and one does not use them up, how do you store them to make them last. Do you store them in that box and then where do you put them to keep them fresh . Im too frugal for fear of wasteing the paint!
@IntheStudioArtInstruction5 жыл бұрын
My palette set up is an built up accumulation of dozens of painting sessions where. on purpose, I've left on the palette paint left over. I like having all my colors around me while working just as we do in watercolor painting. The paint that stays there is already dry and serves as an indicator of where fresh paint goes down for each painting session. See Quick Tip 115.
