Quick Tip: Check HR Sensor Battery Level

I find it really annoying that my Garmin doesn't warn me when the battery for my heart rate (HR) sensor is getting low; it does for every other battery powered device I have connected. This is my workaround for that, fortunately the battery usually lasts a long time, so I don't have to do it very often.

Tried this today - it looks like they have updated the app so that it just gives you the % up front without having to go through that last step with the hex. Thanks for the video.

Awesome and simple solution, thank you. My heart rate monitor wasn't working at the start of a big ride and I suddenly realised I had not idea when/if the battery was flat. Now I have the answer. Cheers

Brilliant thanks - just reviewed Speed, Cadence, Heartrate and shifters. Now don't have to wait to be annoyingly told by the bike computer every 30 minutes while out riding.

Thank you, that's just what I was looking for. Can now keep a check on the battery in my heart rate monitor plus all my other bluetooth devices like smart speakers.

well maybe it worked. I got out of the app and went back in and it said 70 percent versus the old 100 percent when it was on hex. thank you so very much

⛳️I use an app called “ECG RECORDER FOR POLAR H10” to get my battery percentage as low as 10%. This app mainly recorders ECG stream, Heart Rate & R-R interval.

Hi. A useful tip indeed. I find that my Polar H10 HR sensor seems to burn through batteries, so it would be good to be able to monitor that over time. BTW: I installed LightBlue, but the first thing it wanted was permission to detect my location. I cannot see why it would need that to determine the power level of my sensor battery. Did that happen to you? And can you see a good reason for it? I'm increasingly wary of simple apps asking for access throughout my phone -- images, contacts, etc. Cheers BTW: I subbed after the Bryton 320 review. BP

Location permission is a weird name for what is actually permission to use the radios in the phone. It is required for apps that want to use BT/BTLE/Wifi or GPS. It is baffling why the permission set isn't more granular, but it is totally expected.

The reading is always either 80 or 100, even on a battery that's has over 50 hours use in the Tickr. Same with all 4 Indian settings.

Couple things to keep in mind. The battery should last a year, or longer, in most HR sensors. 50 hours isn't that long in that context. Battery life is measured in voltage drop, the reading can only be as good as the sensor's ability to detect voltage changes. It's probably not going to be super granular, but that will depend on the sensor.

What's your tolerance for losing HR data on a ride? I buy cr2032 in bulk so they're ~$0.24/battery. That's an easy math problem for me.
