Good tutorial. I've binned castings before now, because they went 'sweaty'. Now I know.. Thank you!

Well I'm really happy that it should help you in the future with your own castings - thanks for watching!

DWR Plastics here. Excellent video! Glad you found a remedy. I did think it was related to lack of heat generated during the curing process due to the items having such a large surface area in relation to their mass.

Cheers, Danny. As I said in our long phone conversation, I do think mass comes into play where the exothermic reaction doesn't manage to reach its peak to fully cause the cure. Thing is, this can be quite hit and miss. I tried it again, the exact same process, with that other resin that I bought from you and only had this happen a couple of times. I'm fascinated what's going on and will continue to monitor it over time. Thanks for chiming in here!

Where is the sweaty oil from?

It's just part of the actual resin that's separated out. It should have cured with the rest of it, but it didn't get a chance to and thus it begins to sweat out - a bit like when margarine does the same thing.

I was going to ask why was this happening in the first place, but a few reads of the comments, I think I've found my answer.

It essentially boils down to the fact that many years ago, mercury was banned as an additive and this tends to be the result. If there's not enough mass, it doesn't hit the right exothermic point to make it fully cure. It can be quite hit and miss in that regard.

No need to worry, this is a safe resin, low odour, no mercury content and very easy to handle without making a mess.
