Any advice on how to make the screen from scratch. That's basically what i have left but I'm stumped.
@PBProps16 күн бұрын
Any advice? Yes, of course! Pull up a seat and let me tell you a story. Pay attention now. Right, are you comfortable? Then I shall begin... Take the hole that you've cut out in the side of your dog and line it with something called "Hockey Stick Trim" or "P Profile Edging Strip" - as that's what was originally used and you can still get it to this day from any shop that sells plastic extrusions. Once you have that glued into in place as your screen surround, mount some blocks on the inside of your dog, just behind the strip (on the blind side) and then mount a square panel of plastic (acting as the actual screen) to that. This has to be flush with the back edge of your edge strip and hey presto, you've got a screen! Ta daaaaah... Hope that helps you out.

Does this work with a plastic sword I accidentally bent and restraightend it( it’s straight but it has that stress mark )
@PBProps22 күн бұрын
It depends on the type of plastic that it's made from, but it couldn't hurt to try with some gentle heating to start with and see how it goes from there.

Interesting how it did not do anything to the matte finish. At least I think its matte. Is this the same as ronsonel (spelling its the lighter fluid we have in the states). Thanks so much!!
@PBPropsАй бұрын
Lighter fluid is a solvent that evaporates quickly, so it doesn't affect the material's properties. The book cover here is matte - and still is after the process. I know the product that you're talking about and it is largely the same as what I've been using, so you'll be fine doing this kind of procedure with it. Thanks for watching!

Digging up some of the ingenuity of the 1.98 FX/prop budget days of BBC. They absolutely look like they belong in a futuristic yet lived in universe. While time and age has restricted me I used to haunt the local Menards, Home Depot Builders Square plumbing departments,dollar stores and flea markets for prop materials. Old Nerf weapons with a bit of rework, modding and paint became serious looking blasters and slug throwers etc. Best one I came across that just needed some quick olive drab paint, some yellow stenciling with proper militaryish nomenclature were some small in ground pop up sprinkler heads that if you pressed down a certain way on top the spring loaded head popped up. Easily some quick and dirty space marine hand grenades.

Thanks for watching. It's always fascinated me how you can assemble some random(ish) parts together and end up with quite a believable prop at the end of it.

Thanks. It's been repainted since this video was made, but I do understand the temptation to add "improvements" that aren't on the original. The only time that I do that is when there is no proof either way that something is or isn't there. Then and only then do I allow myself a bit of creative licence.

I'm really enjoying your videos, I love the sixties designs for the cybermen. I'm planning to build a tomb head but struggling to find measurements. Are you aware of where I might find even a few basic dimensions to start from?
@PBProps2 ай бұрын
Well I am really glad that you're enjoying the content here - so thanks for watching. As to your question regarding the Tomb head, unfortunately I no longer have one to give you measurements from, but I'm sure if you look at some of the prop boards, there must be someone there who can help you. Good luck with it all!

@@PBProps Thanks for the reply. I can't find anything on the Moonbase/Tomb style helmets but I have gathered lots of reference photos and think I can make a decent guess. I think it's more important to get the proportions right for it to look correct.
@PBProps2 ай бұрын
I know that there are measurements for later classic Cybermen out there, Revenge and Earthshock styles. If you can find those, they will give you a starting point as those were made using the original Tomb style head with new details sculpted on to it. Best of luck with your project.
@davidallan10982 ай бұрын
@@PBProps Perfect, that is helpful as I have found sizes for the revenge cyber heads. Between that and reference photos I should be OK. Thanks.

I love your channel, because you really allow us to see all the decisions being made, and the problem solving going on when your doing a job like this. A lot of people think artistic endeavors are super heady and giga-brained tasks, but almost all of it is just decisions and problem solving. Choices and Perseverance.
@PBProps3 ай бұрын
Well thanks for noticing. Most projects are simply a case of solving lots of small problems until the job is done. Yes there is an element of experience to draw from, but that's built up over years. I'm always happy to share what I know because that's how information lives on.

The formula for your thickness consistency is 18 drops for every 254 grams. About 7 drops of thickener for every 100 grams.
@PBProps3 ай бұрын
I tend to eye ball the mix as the conditions do affect the outcome, you know, ambient heat, humidity and percentage of catalyst added. You just get a feel for what's right, but thanks for taking the time to calculate that.

Would it work if you use boiling water instead?
@PBProps3 ай бұрын
Unfortunately not as you need to "reflow" the plastic. Boiling water simply wouldn't reach the temperature needed to cause this to happen.

I build mine with popsicle sticks and it didn’t turn out half that bad
@PBProps3 ай бұрын
What we make these models from is largely irrelevant to the end product, it's how you make and finish them. I've made models in the past from all manner of "junk" - including cereal packets, scrap card and old lids from things, but with the end result, you couldn't tell, so I'm not surprised that your popsicle sticks build turned out nice.

Would you do a video om how to rewire this kind of tardis to stock as mine has had its wires corroded and I've not a clue where what wire goes 😂
@PBProps3 ай бұрын
How many wires from yours have come off? I think there may be only two long wires coming down from the top, so those ought to be fairly easy to work out where they go. It's been a long time since I did this, so my memory of the system is very foggy.

How do you find the DWR silicone compared to Smooth on Mold max?
@PBProps3 ай бұрын
It does the job as well as it needs to. Smooth On is over hyped and over priced, if you want my honest appraisal. Can't say anything about Mold Max as I've never used it - I'm not even sure if you can get it in the UK, you probably can, but I've never looked for it.
