@alannaofrann67674 жыл бұрын
It doesn't break often, but after a lot of use the buffer retainer pin can have the small post on top break off. Of course it will drop into your lower receiver and can make your trigger inoperable as well as complicate your attempts to separate your upper from the lower when the buffer spring leaps forward. I have replaced mine with the enhanced retainer from LWRCI. It's not expensive and is far more durable than a stock retainer pin.
@davidunderwood36054 жыл бұрын
I agree with all of whats said. I will add that I've seen the face of the buffer chewed up or dinged up by the buffer detention, but that was cured by removing the barrel, milling the face of the receiver where the barrel extension meets the upper with an inexpensive face mill to move the the barrel rearward, inturn moving the bcg rearward enough so that carrier contacts the face of the buffer just enough to stop the slap, which inturn reduced noise and brought the groups to a tighter tolerance on paper. By doing this your taking pressure and contact of the buffer face and buffer detent out of play, accuriseing the action and also getting far better alignment of barrel, barrel extension and bolt and carrier inside of the upper. End mill sold and purchased from Brownells. Thankyou for tools.

Interesting thing with the firing pin, a friend of mine once bought an Aero Precision pre-built rifle, standard 16" barrel with carbine gas system. After about 100 rounds, the tip of the firing pin broke, as it was flatened and too short to make reliable contact with the primer, resulting in light strikes. After changing the firing pin, everything worked just fine. At no point was anything else wrong with the rifle, it performed as expected before the firing pin broke, and after replacing it. I have no idea what caused the issue, but it was an interesting thing to see, and I'm glad it was as simple as that.

@jadenephrite4 жыл бұрын
Regarding 1:17 & 2:27 replacing the bolt on a firearm, bolts are supposed to be manufactured to specifications. However when installing a new bolt for the chamber of an existing or new barrel, then the head space needs to be verified with the Go and the No-Go gauges. Otherwise firing a round in a chamber with excessive head space can result in a dangerous internal pressure catastrophe. On the other hand, insufficient head space can cause failure of a round to go into battery for the chamber of that barrel. Gerald, you have a vivid imagination. Unfortunately it requires therapy.

I like having extra proprietary parts for a gun, like hand guard and gas block hardware, just incase they become discontinued or difficult to find later on.

You should substitute "full auto" for "heavy binary trigger use" as only about 1 percent or less watching this video have a pre 1986 full auto M16..😁😉

Cam pin, I’ve noticed some of mine show excessive wear and deformation from normal semi-auto operation. Where the cam pin contacts the bolt carrier can slot ends. Some have shown cracks. These are the factory mil spec cam pins, from DPMS, Anderson Arms. I have replaced them with titanium mil spec cam pins. I haven’t had the excessive wear problems since. These are Carbine length AR-15’s 16.5” barrels. Changed to mid length gas system barrels and have reduced the wear significantly with a16.5” barrel. Thank you guys for a great video very informative. I have quite a few A.R. 15’s

Never heard the barrel being mentioned. Buffer and gas rings are more important but barrel has to be worth mentioning

The need for a spare parts inventory is a good reason to upgrade as many individual parts of your AR as possible. I have spare triggers, spare buffers and springs, spare stocks, spare iron sights, spare safety switches, etc.

The part that wears fastest on my ARs is the fire-control selector’s detent. They mentioned getting spares in case of loss, but they’ll wear down to a nub relatively fast compared to the buffer spring.
@lip_ripper_addict81994 жыл бұрын
I didn’t hear replacing the “Buffer Detent”. I’ve seen Buffer Detents sheer off and end up in the FCG and render the gun useless👍🏻
@CalebSavant4 жыл бұрын
That is related to a different issue, the detent should never contact the buffer when the firearm is assembled. That only keeps the buffer in place when the upper and lower are seperated.
@lip_ripper_addict81994 жыл бұрын
Caleb Savant yes it is related to a different issue but if it fails and has failed before, why not have a spare on hand? I guess someone could have a spare lower if the detent hole is not drilled right or an offset buffer detent spare

Caleb Savant... lots of shtf warriors will take detent and spring out, just be alert to restrain buffer when breaking down... Forward Controls sells a reinforced detent- (but is $$)
@armedfarm3429 Жыл бұрын
Well why are you letting the buffer hit the retaining pin in the first place? Again, user error.

I've broke 2 firing pins. And an extractor and a lug. Learned not to fire mag after mag in a larger caliber x39. So ya I keep all extra parts for real Brownells got em all as well

So basically "if you don't" have a full auto AR15 you are good to go gotcha! They keep on going back to "if" your have a full auto rifle....
