Where have you been?! I was having Rausch withdrawals.

+Practical Engineering Haha! Trying to divide time over many projects makes it hard to keep up with regular videos. I'm hoping to get back to a normal schedule. Also, my shop was so hot during the summer months that could barely stand to stay out there an hour. I have a bunch of new ideas for videos. Thanks!
The tubes I get have that crosshatch pattern on them and yet I have had a few tubes come out of the blanks. I am thinking I might have left some saw dust in the holes from drilling. I plan on finding a small bottle washer brush to clean the blanks out after drilling.

Good point. Some of my PSI kits come pre cross-hatched and they seem to work well right out of the package. That's really where I got the idea to do the same to these. The brush should help with the dust. Thanks for watching!

so would a slower lathe speed be better?
@DesignBuildExecute8 жыл бұрын
It would not hurt. My midi lathe is a pain to change, so I found a good speed to leave it set at and I work around that. Thanks for watching, Scott!

Key is to remove the lacquer on the tube so the glue contacts the metal and the wood or acrylic blank.
@DesignBuildExecute8 жыл бұрын
This is a good point! Essentially, sanding the tube with this method does that. You can tell when you have brought out the brass sheen and you have good scoring marks in the brass, not just the laquered surface. Thanks for watching!

I have never had a blank come loose. Ever. I always scratch my tubes by hand with 80 grit and use a fair amount of epoxy. But if people really have issues, this should help them.

I have had a few come loose, even after doing this. That was usually after a pretty nasty catch. Thanks for watching, Kevin!
