Just cut brass tubing using a mini pipe cutter and a drill motor. Works extremely fast using both hands. I then took the cut pieces and placed one in the chuck using needle nose pliers. I then used a needle file to deburr the inner wall while rotating in the drill motor chuck. File for the top edge surface while in running drill motor and all done! I’m making fret marker dots for inlay. I used what I had and it worked very well.

The longer tubes 10 inch is a better deal in the long run and a great time saver. Thanks for showing that tip, cause i was going to ask about that very soon....

That's a great way to cut custom tubes Bob. I do it a little differently. I cut the tube 1/8"-1/4" oversize, glue it into the blank with the deformed piece of the tube sticking out. Then I run it through the TS and its ready to go. The glue and wood keep the brass tube from getting distorted again. Thanks for sharing.

+TexasScott That should work great, it would also work with a sander, I've done that a few times. Regards, Bob

Good morning Bob . Harbour freight makes a mini cut off saw that might work well for this . A friend of mine has something similar he uses to cut his arrows . Works good.I'll email you a vid. of it .

If you cut 7 mm tubes you can insert a 1/4" steel rod then cut with mini cutter. No dents or distortions . Tried turning your style one-piece pen and it looks and works great. About two years ago, l started turning plastic and it was a disaster- blow outs, shattering s ,etc. saw your review on plastics , tried the ones you suggested and had great success. Would you do a review of drill bit you have used and like ? Not startling that manufacturers of products always think their products work best. Keep up your good work !!! Rich

Hi there Bob, please tell me, when you glue blanks together for pens, how long do you have to leave it before you can turn them??? many thanks, val
@RJBWoodTurner8 жыл бұрын
+Val Borchardt Hello Val, It really depends on the pen kit. However, if your just making up a bunch of blanks 5 to 5.25 inches is the normal length. Sorry, I wasn't sure of the metric conversion. Bob

I have never done this, but from the outside looking in would it be easier to cut it a pinch long and take it to a sanding belt or wheel and sand it to the exact length?
@RJBWoodTurner8 жыл бұрын
+Matthew Wilson I have done that and it works great too. Bob
