I just purchased enough maple burl to make 50 knives for $30 at a knife show. I purchased half a gallon of cactus juice thinking that would be enough and it barely did half. I've never stabilized wood before and I can't believe it soaked that much up. Thanks for the tip I'm sure I'm going to need it 👍

@@gentrycustomknives8008 it's some great looking wood I couldn't believe the price. I want to try some double dye on some but I only have a hand pump. I really don't want to add another hobby to my list of crap I don't have time to do now or I would buy a good one LOL

Stabilizing doesn't fill holes, it's not designed to. Great tip about the CA glue.

The accelerator is wonderful. Before I started using it I was so frustrated with the drying time.

I wonder if baking soda, or baking soda suspended in water or alcohol would work well as an accelerant too. Awesome video Matt!

Occasionally I'll superglue a cut on my hand shut so I can keep working. Don't use the accelerator on a cut...It burns really bad!

To match handle colors, do you keep a bit of sanding dust in the void before applying the clear CA?

I normally just fill with glue but you can do that!

That truestone machines very easily. Similar to resin just a little more chippy

I've found that when finishing the scales the CA spots shine like glass. What the workaround to not have shiny spots on an oil finished wood handle?

Interesting I haven’t noticed that on mine. I take them to 2000 grit then buff though so maybe that changes the finish compared to oiling
