Not at all surprised about the bent pins. On a duplex trix TGV that I bought, I had two wires on the lighting board soldered on in reverse, so ofc when I connected that coach in the train … I could immediately tell there was a short circuit. Perhaps the add on was built on a late Friday afternoon. These issues are not limited to Marklin. Had a similar issue w a Roco rail jet coach, and we can start a short story on the cracked wheel bearings in the jouef TGV. The hobby has become increasingly expensive, with the quality heading in the opposite direction. And yes, most retailers simply pass the problems onto the consumers to sort out. Needless to say, my purchasing trend has decreased dramatically. Great video, btw! Thx!

I’ve had bent pins on other models as well. Mostly from ACME. I just gently bent them back into place. You don’t have to hulk them but do it gently. Once you bend them back they work properly again.

Thank you for commenting! Yes.. I'm a little bit concerned about the substantial increase in price seemingly without a corresponding increase in quality (indeed, maybe there's a decrease in quality lately?).

@@DoctorHobby HI , I did try to carefully strighten the pin but the pin just snapped. I wound not buy any more models from Trix Marklin with this type of coupling. As as you say the price of the new tgvs are ridiculous . JIM

Hello, I am having an issue with a TGV from Trix, it worked very fine but last day as soon as I connect the power it start making some electricity noise and start running with all lights on but didn’t respond to the address to stop it, I checked the pins and everything looks fine. I am using an NCE power cab and I tried to reset the decoder but it says “Short Circuit Detected”, any ideas of what it could be? Thanks

And here I was getting ready to cheer Marklin simulating French rail strikes! Oof but it's a bent pin for the plug. Alors! Well though wouldn't it be nice, is too much to ask really if decoders had the option to model the performance characteristics of the real thing? Yes. I may want this.

I've thought for awhile some decoder mftr should supply a voltage swing input and corresponding cv for the number of transitions per in this case revolution. And then leave up to hobbyists to provide the sensors for rpm measurement to it. With the idea this is more accurate across the rpm range than bemf. But I guess there's nothing in it for them to do so.

I normally order a lot of Maerklin/Roco/etc from Europe as a lot of items are much easier to source there. When you get a defective model or a model that needs repair/exchange, having to spend another $100 to send the item back adds a lot to the cost and frustration. Many of the companies insist that you should address any issue with the dealer, but from where I stand, it is the manufacturer who bears a warranty responsibility for the goods and not the dealer.

I agree--the European manufacturers' support in the U.S., except, perhaps Marklin, is really lacking. Even Hornby allowed me to send things directly back to them. I just don't know if they have any real incentive to improve upon that system, but I really wish they would.

Superb model 👍🏻😉 P.s the couplers are very delicate on all the Trix Marklin Tgv's , I had the same problem so I ordered a few spare couplers in case they break in the future. Also if the lighting fails or a Solder jount comes week the entire train fails as the return earth runs along the lighting pcb in each coach for the motor at each end of the train. All of these models run slow as the decoder is managing two motors and all of the lighting etc.. I've had quite a few problems with these tgvs. I had the jouef Hornby version and that was extremely fast but the gear drive train is unreliable and back up spares are required. Jim

I have the Trix tgv. How did you up the speed? The reason why the tgv looks slow is because top speed needs to be 298-300 scale speed. Not 255. I am enjoying my tgv. I have 3 jouef and one trix😊

Also. Trix/markLin model trains aren’t geared for speed. They are just higher detailed models. I am more versed in these sections. If you want speed just stick with jouef. Trix won’t be for you

Do you know any AC equivalent for the Walthers wheels? I have a Märklin layout and want to use some Walthers container trains, but Walthers has just DC wheels.

Nice review again !!! I just bought the Jouef version for AC, and am having problems keeping the train on the tracks. You made a comment early on in the video, do you have this as well and did you have any problems with it?

I actually have the orange TGV from Jouef and it does the same thing mostly because the cars are too light. Might that be the issue with yours?

@@DoctorHobby That is what I think happens with mine as well (too light). If I run just the 4-car set, it runs fine, but I bought 4 additional cars and with 6 it runs fine, but 8 is an issue. The other thing is that I have curved switches in my layout which seems to be where most of the derailing happens. Thanks for yet another great video! Who was the retailer? Hopefully not who I think it was who specialises (from Illinois) in European model railroading as that would be a disappointment. This set like most everything else can probably be had from Train World at a discount anyway, but that other retailer again specialises in European models and I'm hopeful (and can't imagine) that they'd offer such an idiotic suggestion. It wasn't the retailer you're thinking of--they've been really good. The retailer I'm using is farther south--nice people, but really, really poor at communication and results. I'm in the process of shedding them off. They're better than the retailer who's way down southeast... they're the worst..

I see a lot of problems with the large passenger transports (ICE 2, ICE 3, ..) What's the behavior in the R1 curves ?

Oh, I could see these having problems with these curves as the coupling clearances seem a bit tight and maybe inflexible. The smallest curve I use is R4 so I can’t attest to its behavior on such tight curves.

The Trix version is for two rail, the Marklin for 3. So just get the trix version as it's the same otherwise

Märklin is a premium brand and the details are mostly really good. BUT! Märklin has one big flaw! In comparison to Roco and other European brands the sound of Märklin Locos is so shit!
