Spinel's issues meanwhile are also far, far from fixed. She has only taken the first (most important, but nonetheless the first) step: she has recognized that she has issues she needs to fix. If Spinel has other outbursts, which she likely will, the people around her need to know how to handle it. And the Diamonds... I don't think they will know how to handle her anywhere near somewhat well. I don't think the Diamonds will be very understanding, Blue might try but even about that I'm only cautiously hopeful.

fusion can be done without love, too. lapis and jasper had a very toxic fusion, and rubies fuse all the time in the line of duty. it's used as a metaphor for all kinds of love in the show, romantic and platonic.

Same-gem fusion is most likely similar to teamwork while different-gem fusions are, as you said, different ways of relationship. It can be a forced love, or a genuine one, and not necessarily the "I want to marry you" love, but also family bond, which is why I think Steg is a PERFECTLY plausible fusion.

I completely agree! It is so infuriating to me when people say Steven and Connie fusing is disgusting because fusion is the equivalent to sex. For one thing, that was never even confirmed and it honestly sounds like they're just trying to find a reason to complain. Fusion represents different relationships, like you said. Aquamarine and double Topaz weren't villains, they were more like crooked interstellar cops, just doing their jobs. Emerald wasn't a villain either, Lars was. They shouldn't have been redeemed to begin with. Or at least, their redemption was poorly handled. It's presented as if them abusing Pink (Which was an awful thing to do, as well.) was the only bad thing that they did, as well as banning fusion. Completely ignoring the fact that they killed millions upon billions of innocent lives by destroying countless planets, treated their subjects like crap, look down upon other species, and are so stupid and arrogant that they refuse to make any changes to save their dying planet. Steven using Talk no Jutsu on them won't erase all the horrible things they did. They don't even feel bad for the mass-murdering they committed and instead just sing to Steven. I think a lot of people don't seem to realize that sometimes, violence and killing is necessary, especially when there are savages in this world who refuse to listen and can't be reasoned with. The Diamond arc should've been about Steven trying to redeem them, but comes to the realization that they don't want to listen and killing them is the only option. If you think that's extreme, I should tell you that I live in Romania, which is a country that was under communist control for decades. The country didn't become free until the 1989 revolution when its dictator, Nicolae Ceausescu was executed. Had this happened in the show, Steven could've taken over as the new ruler of Homeworld and create a better society. Otherwise, what was the point of making him Pink Diamond's son?

You mentioned antagonists ALWAYS coming around in Steven universe, but don't forget Aquamarine, Navy (the ruby), Holly Blue Agate, and Eyeball (also a ruby). All four are antagonists who did not get "redeemed" (as far as we know), and Aquamarine straight up was ASKED to change and just laughed at Steven. She is one bad bitch. (Also, fusion just represents relationships in general: friendships, familial relationships, romantic, or etc.)

all of those characters are minor antagonists that was redeemed when homeworld found out Steven is pink diamond. when people say they don't want a villain redemption they mean main antagonists like the diamonds or spinel.

Aquamarine appeared in like two episodes and was never heard from again, Holly appeared in one single episode and wasn't heard from, and eyeball appeared in I believe three, and was never heard from again. In the time skip, heavily implied that eyeball, Holly, and aquamarine made up for treating Steven like that because he is now part of the diamond authority.
