Had one of these as my first car - changed it to bandit 1200 carbs - never worked properly really but I was only 19 then and would have loved to give it another go now. Turboing it is absolutely nuts. So cool. Mega props!

I have a similar vehicle, I'd like to ask a question about the carbs. Do I just push the boost line into the brass part of the carb don't I have to lock a part of the carb up to stop it rising under boost?

Sorry to read that you lost the engine. Saw this video a couple weeks after you uploaded it. Had been searching for any kind of videos or info for adding a blow-through on the '89 3rd Gen Prelude. Picked up an Audi A4 (1.8L) setup to play with, then my first Honda in October of '19, just in front of all the shut downs. The Prelude has a computer controlled twin carb SOHC 12 valve 2.0 Litre engine. Not sure if the computer controller was involved in your setup, or if it will help, or more likely muck up the whole thing. Any thoughts? The Audi exhaust manifold looks as if it will be better for spooling up with its short, and smaller diameter runners. The port spread is a bit narrower than the head, so the thought was to fab an adapter manifold to sort that and the port size. Found the pitot tube(s) on a few other people's videos for other applications a few days before your video came up in another search. Haven't played with the Arduino, yet have been following a bit since they came out. Hope you are doing well and thanks for the video.

Awesome and unusual build mate :D I haave the same car, what are some good sources to find info for our cars? My car is running like crap, huge stutter / stumble / bucking at low RPM when i start moving, im thinking the carburetor is badly tuned but i cant figure out where to find jets, or what replacement dual carb setup would work, wich webber for exmple etc :D
@jakethepeasant4 жыл бұрын
See ebay item 184249500984 for carb main jets for the "dual carb" keihins like I have, although these only really affect full load fuelling so might not be the issue
@jakethepeasant4 жыл бұрын
I would start off by checking for any sort of vacuum leak and making sure the cam and ignition timing are good before digging into fuel issues, these carbs are pretty reliable normally! And I'm not sure about different carbs but something like a pair of 40 or 45dcoe would fit alright I think, although finding a manifold might be difficult!

Love this! Was struggling to find any info on doing this to a dual carb. Is the plenum made from steel how did you make it? How does it attach it to the carbs? Cheers
@jakethepeasant4 жыл бұрын
Yeah the plenum is made from steel box section, around 75-80mm square, 3mm wall thickness. Just welded plates on either end and some tube for the inlet. It attaches to the carb via some longer bolts that go all the way through it. Hope this helps.

Hey mate, a bit late to the party but wondering how you got your set up to work, ive only found old information regarding boosting dual carbs (i have a d15b4) and apparently a draw through set up was the only way to go, but with a draw through you don't run a bov or a front mount, you obviously are so im curious on how you made this work, cheers
@jakethepeasant Жыл бұрын
All the info is in the vid, the only change I had to make was the pitot tube set up on the fuel bowl vents, took a little bit of playing to get the fuelling right but was otherwise standard carbs. No issues with blowing through these carbs, draw through carb set ups are naff and I'd avoid them wherever possible. You will also need a way of bumping the fuel pressure up, in my case I used an electric pump and boost referenced fuel pressure regulator.

Pretty cool bro, have CRX jdm with 1.5 dual carb which seems to have a bit more vacuum controlled stuff over the 1.4 had issues with over heating, hopefully with new head gasket and intake manifold gaskets etc it will be fixed, would love to boost the power when its running right, i know there is one mod of altering springs and motorcycle air filters for 10-15bhp increase, be nice to add vtec or turbo though. Like keeping 1.5 litre for low tax cost, dont wanna spend nearly 300 quid a year on a car that isnt used loads. Ideal setup would be 1.5 with 3 stage vtec and then turbo'd so you get mega fuel economy and 200+ bhp but lot of work changing car for fuel injection

Did you delete the vacuum controller or the Black box?
@jakethepeasant7 ай бұрын
The black box on the block is vented to atmosphere as is the cam cover vent, the carbed civics here didn't have vacuum controllers (that's some stuff on the bulkhead isn't it?)

Hey man nice vid. i have a question for the pitot tube lines did you use some sort of t fitting ? If you did what kind also the connection to the fuel regulator the reference boost line it goes from the plenum to the fuel regulator ?
@jakethepeasant4 жыл бұрын
It was just a plastic barbed T fitting for the pitot tubes, I think it was designed for 6mm hose which was bigger than the 5mm vacuum hose I was using so no clamps or anything were needed. Also yeah the fuel regulator needed a line from the plenum, it needs to go from wherever the carb float bowls get their air pressure from.

hello i just got my first honda civic ef with the dual carbs whats the fuel pressure on those it came with a cheap inline pump on it
@jakethepeasant9 ай бұрын
Carbs should have 2-3psi above air pressure, so depends what sort of pump you have. Some carb electric pumps will naturally provide this, injection pumps are much higher, around 45psi and will cause the carbs to leak fuel unless you use a regulator

@ornkmd3 жыл бұрын
Hi, So would this be classified as a pull through or push through setup? Is the Turbo mounted to the exhaust manifold or is it inline before the carb?
@jakethepeasant3 жыл бұрын
This is a push/ blow through set up as the carbs are downstream of the compressor. A turbo is always mounted to the exhaust manifold.

Hi.. I'm going to do the same thing.. But I got a few questions.. Did you keep the original fuel pump or you just added the electric pump to it?.. Can you make more videos, do you still drive you car with this config.. Can you make better video and view of you motor and what you added and how.. Thanks..
@jakethepeasant4 жыл бұрын
I can't make any more videos of it with the carbs as I killed the engine due to not retarding ignition timing with boost, cracked some ring lands. I used an electric fuel pump and rising rate regulator to keep he fuel pressure ~2-3 psi above boost pressure. The carbs worked fine but I would recommend mappable ignition with boost which would have prevented my issues.

Read you saying you can make one for people to buy, how much would it cost?
@jakethepeasant4 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't personally build kits to sell, tbh I would charge more than it would be worth to the seller as I value my time quite highly. I can give advice to people building their own though. The plenum is the main difference between a carb and injection turbo set up and it is fairly basic and would be easy for anybody with basic fabrication skills to make.
@columbiamotorsports91504 жыл бұрын
Where can i get a setup
@jakethepeasant4 жыл бұрын
Most of the parts are available on ebay or made by myself. I wouldn't bother trying to buy a "kit" of parts as it normally works out more expensive and they often don't fit properly or at all.

Can the dual carb be converted to efi?
@jakethepeasant4 жыл бұрын
Yes it can, there are several ways to do it although none are particularly easy. I am now running with efi, I am using a Speeduino stand alone ECU and made a wiring loom from scratch for it, while retaining all of the original car wiring. Often people swap out the whole engine and dash loom for an injection models loom.
